    HW/Weihrauch HW30 v HW50

Been posted in other threads here many times before, but for the record there are two quite different rifles called "HW 50." The original was HW's first post-war product, came out about 1951 and made until 1999. There were MANY variations of stocks, triggers, sights, seal materials, etc. over...

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

So anyway, THIS grandpa had fun working on this and learned a lot! Here's some of the stuff I did... 1. Snugged up a loose front sight, with the help of a thin brass shim (and KWK's tips). 2. Touched up the barrel's scraped-up blueing with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue. This stuff is a revelation -...

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

To be honest, I don't remember! It's a box of stuff I've had forever, that I use to adjust saxophone keys and such. The sheet I used is about 1/16" thick, and I used a bit of low-tack double-sided tape (made for photo mounting, etc.) to secure it. Based on a quick google, cork sheet is easy to...

N/A 10 Meter classic springer montage

Thanks Swissair - what a great pair of videos! It's easy to look up past winners of big matches, but hard to run down their equipment so this is quite valuable. In those days matches were a straight 60 shots for men, 40 for women, nowadays it's more complex of course! Shots are electronically...

N/A 10 Meter classic springer montage

IIRC, at least one gold at the 1984 LA Olympics was won with an Anschutz 380. I believe it was the last major international competition won by a spring-piston rifle. The most successful FWB rifle was the model 300, made for only 4 or 5 years (1968-73 or so), but pretty much unchallenged at...

That was ingenious! Glad things are back on track.

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

Thanks gents! I will give both the breech jaw and stock suggestions a try. The front of the action sat a bit lower in the wood, so I put a thin pad of stiff cork under the flat bracket the front stock screw threads into. It feels like it helped, but I need to shoot it a bit and see how things...

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

I will note that the HW 30 (which current stock finish was there when I got it) looks quite a bit better than the HW 50 (which I did myself many years ago), LOL. Full credit to the previous owner. :)

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

Just for giggles, here are the two custom Air Rifle Headquarters custom Williams sights mentioned above, in action. The "ARH 624" above on the HW 30S, and the slightly taller "ARH 834T" with finger knobs below, on a contemporary HW 50S. (Also note the similar bad re-finish job on each stock, LOL...)

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

Well here she is back together. The shot cycle after excavating all the goop, re-conditioning the leather seal, and installing the Maccari kit is GREAT. Haven't chrono'd it yet, but there's truly no comparison to the "before" behavior. The blueing had been scraped thin, and turned brown, on...

Beeman Safety Location - older HW 50S

Quick historical note - your gun is the first type of HW 50, which was made from around 1951 to 1998 or so. A lovely, solid design characterized by the thread-off rear section to access the spring and piston. There were MANY options and variations of it over the years - different triggers, with...

Beeman Safety Location - older HW 50S

Yes - first job is to take the pellet out!!!!!!! Congrats on a great get - the HW 50 is one of my all-time faves. The stock is actually the factory upgrade "Monte Carlo" one, which Beeman put on all his HW 50's for a couple years before the R8 came out (which was the same action with plastic...

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

Yeah. This gun does have a set of breech shims, but - unless ARH did 'em - they may not be original. Most older barrel-cockers, even beautiful pre-war ones, just have the breech block plopped in naked betwixt the jaws like this. I guess they figgered the wear wasn't visible when the barrel was...

    N/A 10 Meter break barrels

More barrel-cocking refugees from the springer target gun era! You PCP guys might be shocked how well some of these oldsters shoot, lol...:D Diana model 35/b, in .22 cal: Early Walther LGV in wonderfully ergonomic "Olympia" stock... ...which will do this on a good day: Stock variations...

    N/A 10 Meter break barrels

Congrats on the Champ, which is a rare and really cool little rifle. Truly kid-sized, with a nice ambi stock, and the nifty adjustable-position trigger blade should be on all HW's in my opinion!

A knife-sharpening stone also works well to tame sharp edges at the cocking lever slot, etc.

HW/Weihrauch HW 30s Rear Sight Problem

Apologies in advance if any of these comments seem insulting...but the sight looks fine to me: + The numbers on the elevation knob are an arbitrary reference - you aren't done raising it just because the "8" happens to be up! The sight has a large range of vertical adjustment, and the knob may...

    HW/Weihrauch Your grandpa's HW 30

My JM kit came in yesterday, so I've stripped the old HW 30 down. If you've ever read any of Robert Law's classic Air Rifle Headquarters literature, you know his idea of a "tune" (or "accurizing" in ARH-speak) was to pack AN ENTIRE TUB of moly grease into a rifle! This one seems to have...
