What's your favorite shot group you've had?

Your point is well taken, but I don't believe that folks are claiming that their tiny groups are any more than just that; a screamer group that might or might not happen again. Nothing wrong with being pleased with it. As a former benchrest competitor, I can say for certain that most BR shooters...

N/A Help me make a poor financial decision:)

Given your age and place in the air rifle hobby lifeline, it is very unlikely that any rifle you buy will be a permanent purchase. What you buy and how much you spend is totally subjective, and obviously depends on your budget and resources. "Overspending" for one person might be pocket change...

N/A Help me make a poor financial decision:)

You could buy several rifles and still not fully meet all your needs/desires. You're overthinking it. You're a young man, your goals will change, and the PCP market will change. Buy a rifle you like and go shooting. If it doesn't work for you, buy another one, repeat as needed.

FX Had to share this one…..FX Royale 400 .22

I'm also the proud owner of a Royale 400 in .22. Along with my Taipan Veteran and RAW HM1000, it shares some valued features; accuracy, simplicity, dependability. It was one of my first PCP rifles, and it will be one of my last to sell. Definitely one to keep.

    Taipan Why I like Taipan(s)

As you say, maybe not as powerful as some of the competition, but we tend to forget the roots of our hobby. Precision air rifles have been evolved from the European market, where power was in the 5-12 fpe range, and in many places remains there. One of my most enjoyable rifles is an HW100 in...

PCP Rifle Daystate Red Wolf standard power .22

Red Wolf in excellent condition. I bought it new from AOA in December 2018. It has been shot very little, probably less than 2 tins. Accuracy is outstanding. Comes with 2 CARM, one new style Daystate and 2 old style Daystate magazines. Scope and moderator not included. Comes with all papers and...

What did you buy yourself for Christmas?

A pair of 877 Red Wings. Should last to the next generation!

    Taipan Why I like Taipan(s)

I've bought and sold a bunch of air rifles over the years. There are only 2 that I sold and then repurchased, a RAW HM1000 and a Taipan Standard Vet 1. I guess both share some characteristics that are important to me: accuracy, simplicity, durability, great triggers. I suppose the Vet is more...

Measuring my progress as a shooter…

I don't mean to be critical of benchrest, nor to minimize the skills involved. I competed in CF and RF BR for years and I appreciate the challenges. But the skills, for the most part do not involve marksmanship, at least not in the traditional sense. At one point I became bored with benchrest...

    New or Not

If a rifle is sealed in the factory box, I think it's reasonable to assume that it hasn't been shot since it left the maker. Anything on the rack is a demo. If, or how much it's been shot will vary with the dealer. But if there is no sign of damage or abuse, and you have a full warranty, I...

    Daystate Daystate magazine

Get a CARM mag. I have them for several rifles and they all work great. Much less expensive.

HW/Weihrauch Are you missing out? Little group therapy with the HW100 BP in .22.

I assume it is the HW100 rifle action. I have a carbine in .177 and it's my favorite yard gun. I tuned it down to a little over 11 fpe, and it's virtually silent, great shot count, and very accurate. Power is still sufficient for squirrels at 35 yards, which is about my maximum yard range. I...

I apologize and I'll not interfere with more poor advice.

    FX Critique my tune

I'm going to tell you something that you probably don't want to hear. Being new to PCP rifles, you may not have made the best choice for an entry rifle. As an option, put the M4 in the safe for a while and buy a rifle that you can load and shoot without giving a thought to tuning, such as a...

    FX Critique my tune

Ultimately, all that matters is accuracy. The only way I know to tune is to first determine my velocity goal. Once that is a given, then work on balance. Frankly, I don't think that you can make that determination based on a 50 foot target. Any reasonable velocity should shoot one-hole groups at...

Daystate Huntsman Revere or DNT TNC225R?

My suggestion is to not place fpe as a primary consideration in a rifle for the use you describe. No standard power air rifle in .177 through .25 is going to deliver enough energy to be a practical guide in making a decision. A gut-shot squirrel with a .25 is still a gut-shot squirrel, and he's...

Daystate Huntsman Revere or DNT TNC225R?

I have a Revere in .22. It's a favorite! Given the power level of the Revere, I'm afraid that a .25 would offer a challenging trajectory to manage at 50 yards and beyond. But that's my deficiency and not a rifle problem, and you're likely better at holding for distance than am I. It is a very...

Daystate Daystate Revere - .177 Caliber

Then you probably don't want a Daystate. The FX adjustamatics are marketed to fit this need. The Daystate rifles are good, solid designs, and I much prefer them, but many others like the versatility of turning dials and screws. Each to his own, it's all out there.
