To Strip or Not To Strip

Totally agree. The one I did return was a poorly restored gun that they described e”excellent, as new”. Just an oversight by someone. They took it back (a little begrudgingly) and didn’t refund the shipping In paid.

To Strip or Not To Strip

I saw that one on AOA. I’ve gotten a few from them. Two were winners and one went back. Their descriptions are vague at best. Good luck. It looks like a winner.

    Crosman 1968 Crosman 760 PowerMaster

That’s a dandy. Is it original or restored? If it’s restored someone did a good job.

To Strip or Not To Strip

That’s a beauty. Walniut is a gift to refinish and make beautiful. Beechwood is a pain. I did this JTS Airacuda also. I could see a nice grain figure hiding underneath the mud that was sprayed on. Top picture is the way it came. I almost sent it back but took a picture (rare thing for me to take...

To Strip or Not To Strip

Yes, good eye. I never like to get a picture of an ugly stock. I guess I don’t want to remember it that way. I searched for a good equivalent.

    Crosman 1968 Crosman 760 PowerMaster

Could it be 88? The 8 is for 1968. First number is the month. Nice condition 760.

HW/Weihrauch Is This the HW30s’ Biggest Weakness?

And to the OP‘s title question: this two piece cocking lever is the biggest weakness in the 30, 35, 50, 55. IMHO

HW/Weihrauch Is This the HW30s’ Biggest Weakness?

Agree with MDriskill. In the video it looks as if the right groove on the receiver (holding it upside down) has wear on it. This removal of metal started happening when the joint in the cocking lever started to fail. After enough time the lever gets so bound up that it fails on the return also...

    Crosman 1968 Crosman 760 PowerMaster

I bought this 760 at a pawn shop for $15. Very rough. Didn’t work. Rusty. Just cleaned the internals and snapped in a new pump cup. Then removed the paint on the receiver and polished it. Did the wood. Removed the rust and cold blued it. You can do this yourself. Plenty of videos out there. Make...

To Strip or Not To Strip

I have done the wire/torch process on black powder rifles. Did this Crosman 760. The wire can scar the wood. It’s a gamble.

To Strip or Not To Strip

That’s my opinion also. And my wife says “you don’t want them to look alike anyway.” Good point.

To Strip or Not To Strip

Good question. These both are the “Diana Stormrider“ in 22 caliber. I started out on a Sheridan in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Went to the Beeman R1 in the mid 80’s. Had them all. Best Target guns, PCP‘s and Springers. 45 years of Airguns and this Stormrider is by far my favorite of all time...

To Strip or Not To Strip

I strip the original finish off. Do not use lacquer thinner as it removes color and raises the grain to much. Steel wool with the grain. Let stock dry overnight. Stain multiple times and colors. Let each coat dry for 1-2 hours. Rub the stock down with rubbing alcohol between stain coats. This...

To Strip or Not To Strip

Yes, chemically removed the original finish. It comes off easily. Not catalyzed.
  15. Bear-of-Grayling

To Strip or Not To Strip

This is the question. Here are three examples. Top one is a factory finished Beechwood stock. Almost looks pickled. No color but a nice matte finish. I did strip it and it’s now the bottom one. Just received a new one (middle). They finally added some color to the wood. Much better. This...

Traditional Rifle Daisy 753W Elite Competition Air Rifle

This is a Daisy 753W (wood stock) target rifle. Single stroke pneumatic. Pretty much NOS. Comes with 4 interchangeable front sight inserts. This deluxe wood model was discontinued a few years ago. Accuracy is amazing. Trigger has been polished. No box or sling. $300 plus actual shipping...

Very interesting. No plastic in these iron horses!

JTS Custom "Button" trigger & "Cocking Knob" for the JTS Airacuda custom build.

Before and after. JTS needs to finish the stocks better. But the gun is a bargain. I like that trigger. Reminds me of the Diana 75t01.
