Ah well… it just occurred to me… that I have a manual… Balanced valve, but seems to have a a stronger return spring based on comparison to U2 drawing:

I don’t know man… the other true balanced valve guns I have essentially fallen of a cliff in terms of speed if you go below the point the valve opens properly. Like half a turn -5fps, another half turn -3 fps, another half turn -150fps. The u3 doesn’t do that based on what I’ve seen. Must admit...

I didn’t actually look at the valve but it acts like a traditional. 100s of fps just by way of adjusting hammer… maybe just coincidence but it really reacts to hammer very sensitive, way more than I’d expect from a balanced valve.

I didn’t adjust mine (600mm) as to the valve, only hammer. Meanwhile also upped the reg and rebalanced the hammer, the two strings are with 22gr before and after retune. Even tighter with 18gr. Balancing the valve perfectly would probably help even more but not going to mess with it until I know...

Fair point! I tried JTS and JSB (18 through 25gr) with similar/worse results… AEA 18gr were te best out of the bunch. All 20-22gr were poop, 25 better than 22 but worse than 18. Though I didn’t try 25gr at proper speeds. Maybe I have to try more.

Agree on the mirror finish not being generally “good”. Funny thing though, my understanding is that Evol barrels are polished to a shine from the factory…

Indeed… I think polishing is not good enough, marks are too deep. A fellow member here has kindly offered to properly hand lap the barrel, which is probably the only way it has a chance. Even then probably going to end up with a reverse choke, meaning larger bore at muzzle…

Yeah going to give AOA a call, they have a list of other backordered stuff for me anyway :) no high hopes given how scarce Evol parts are though… lesson learned I guess, don’t get used (or maybe even new) guns for which there’s no support in terms of spare parts…

AEA pellets. Yeah pushed one through, feels good until the end of the barrel, the almost fall out. I’m guessing that the skirts expand into the rings and get compressed again 3 times when they hit the rings…

I may as well try. I have 400 and 600 grit here but I guess you’re right, that’s not good enough for something this deep. My only concern is that I’ll end up with a .23 bore at the muzzle if really get the rings out… like a reverse choke :)

Not the pellets :) AEA are crazy consistent, I shot complete tins with my other rifles without a single flyer. The Evol throws 2-3 within 10 shots. Seriously, look at the barrel, it’s obvious that it’s defective, these rings aren’t supposed to be there. I’ve never seen a barrel so screwed up...
