Finally broke my vortex, now what?

Don’t worry, we know better. That Whiskey Asp scope might be all you will need. When I bought my 34p it came with an RWS scope. I was sure it would be good as it came as a combo. It didn’t make it past 30 shots. As you said, best layed plans...Cheers

Finally broke my vortex, now what?

Look at the SWFA 10xSS with Ao. Only 30mm tube though, new rings. Around $300, If you decided on this call up their service dept to be sure it is their springer rated scope. I here it has outstanding glass. Good luck, keep us posted. They make the same scope in 6x.

Finally broke my vortex, now what?

Hawke Air Max 2-7x32 or 3-9x40 around $220 or so. The 2-7 weighs only 16oz. There is a guy on YouTube called Cyclops who reviews scopes. Look him up and watch some of what he does and how he checks scopes. He really liked the 2-7x32. I don’t have any experience with the Hawke Air Max but hear...

opinion for a scope for rws34 for hunting squirrels

Glenroiland, If you bench your gun with bags or some way to keep the gun from moving sighting at a vertical line or edge, such as a box or beer can at say 15 yds. Move your head side to side while looking through the scope. The amount the windage line moves from one side to the other of your...

opinion for a scope for rws34 for hunting squirrels

Glenroilad, You are right it would probably be fine. I just had the the ZR mount laying around so decided to play with it, see how it holds zero and such. Originally I was going to put it on my 48 as it has a reputation for scope wrecking, but the UTG is holding up ok. If, or when the UTG dies...

opinion for a scope for rws34 for hunting squirrels

Sorry...brain fart, Should have read the title again. For my back yard pesting, all under 25yds, I have two different set ups. Two springers with 4x scopes. More than enough for accurate headshots. My RWS 34 now has a Hawke 4x with a Bullseye ZR-mount...(Since it just destroyed my last scope)...

opinion for a scope for rws34 for hunting squirrels

What are you putting the scope on, what are you shooting (paper, back yard vermin, Field Target competition, etc.) and at what ranges would help to know for a proper suggestion.

opinion for a scope for rws34 for hunting squirrels

I had the 2.5-10x Tasco on a RWS34. It lasted about 500 rounds befor the crosshairs went sideways... from + to x.

    Scope Shimming ?

I’m old school...my almost new Diana 48 was shooting about 4” left at 20 yds with an optically centered scope. I have several trees in the back yard with a variety of forked branches. I placed the barrel in a convenient fork and applied a little pressure with my hand to “adjust” the bbl in the...

    Heaviest .177 pellets for RS2?

My .177 RWS 34 shoots the RWS Supermag pretty well. At ten yds. a head shot hits them like the hammer of Thor. They don’t go anywhere. It’s about 9.4 gr. wadcutter.

    wadcutters for pesting

In the past I’ve used RWS Supermag in .177 from a RWS 34 P. Probably around 12fpe. All except one were headshots. All except one DRT. The one heart lung shot went about 15yds before expiring. That Supermag hits them like the hammer of Thor. My 34 didn’t like the Meisterkugeln. The 34 does like...

high power 22 for small game

If you are using the JSB 14gr. For hunting this may be your problem with critters running off. Try some JSB Hades, Predator Polymags or their Metalmags. The rounded shape of the JSB Exact will plow through with little tissue damage. The pellets I mentioned will expand and do more tissue damage...

Do I really need a slug barrel to shoot slugs?

LW bbls will shoot slugs. Slug your barrel, get the dimensions, and get slugs close to the bbl measurements. Powder burners shoot slugs, you can get sizing/lubing dies and press from reloading equipment sellers, and get your slugs to a perfect size for your bbl. I used to shoot powder burners...

    heavy wad cutter pellets needed

I would try the Predator Pollymags at 10 to 15 yds. Not a wad cutter, but might be worth a try.

    Slugs or Hollowpoints for headshots?

Forgot to mention but look up “pigman shoots pig with .177 air rifle.” YouTube. Looks like he is using a pellet, not sure which one. Interesting. But shows, shot placement, accuracy and of course good velocity are all vital to a clean kill.

    Slugs or Hollowpoints for headshots?

For squirrel in .22 at around 800 fps I have used Predator Pollymag shorts, about 15.7gr. At a quartering shot through the skull above the eye the pellet usually ends up on the opposite side under the hide, behind the shoulder, perfectly expanded to about .28. They just drop and twitch 4 to 5...

    Athlon scopes

I have an Athlon Talos, 3x12x40, side focus. It sits on my Talon SS .22. Very happy with it for the price, $150. Most of my shooting is done in the back yard, bird feeder defense. Nothing over 30 yds. Actually I usually set my variable scopes to 6x and would be just as happy with a fixed scope...

My new squirell gun, I think I've really gone to the dark side... Pt 2

Welcome to the “Dark Side.” Nice new toy, er, I mean tool you got there. I just recently also came (imagine Darth Vador breathing through his mask, breathing in...breathing out.....breathing in... breathing out...) to the PCP side. Bought a slightly used Talon SS in .22. Shot springers before...
