    pesting with the HW30

I'm probably in the neighborhood of 8 ft lbs with the PG4 kit. That is sufficient for red squirrels, they are smaller than Grey, although it is used on much larger ground squirrels. The vast majority of my shots are 10 to 15 yards. Occasionally 20 or a bit more. For those distances it has been...

    pesting with the HW30

After bringing the local red squirrel population under control this winter with the HW30, the "black hole" effect is starting to take effect. Prime, unoccupied habitat is calling to the local reds. A quick walk about this morning and the little HW30 was 2 for 2. One shot drops. I am noticing...

    HW50s

I bought an HW30 and an HW50, the 30 barrel was nearly perfect. The 50 had excessive droop, ridiculous amount. Sent it back and have not purchased another. No need of such poor QC.

Like using lead pellets? Collect the carcasses or risk losing lead entirely

Good post. It happened to waterfowl hunters, could happen to airgunners, I suppose. Lead poisoning is real. Anyone who doesn't believe it is in simple denial, and doesn't want the hassle of being responsible. If the shot is a pass through I put them were my local fox eats them, out of 13 red...

Tuning Vortek 'SHO' for HW50S in .177?

I recently installed the vortek HO kit and seal in my HW30s, following Mycapt 65 advice. Use very little, less than you might think, lube on the seal edges, mop out the old lube completely. It took my gun a tin of pellets to settle in after. Now I am very happy with its accuracy and shot cycle...

1st tree rat of the year

Fine shooting. Nothing wrong with a .22 on squirrels and the most accurate slug or pellet you can find!!

    Finally tagged another coyote (#6)

Well done, great persistence and problem solving. Those two are vastly overlooked parts of the successful hunt equation. You are a true hunter!!

    Airgun VS Rimfire for hunting

Comparing rimfires to pcp performance is really comparing apples to oranges. To suggest that pcp's can be substituted for rimfires out to 200 yds in my view is a misapplication of the pcp technology. I love air rifles, rimfires and centerfire rifles and have had the great good fortune of owning...

Grey Squirrel Tough as 50 Cent

You can't stress that enough, shot placement is everything for quick kills. I shoot red squirrels around the yard as we are over run with them and they get into everything in my sheds, shop and garage. I take them with an HW30s, 8 foot pounds using a 7.3g pellet. In the head they don't hardly...

    HW30s pellet testing continued

OK. Beginning to understand this heavy pellet thing better. Much to learn with these little spring guns!! Sometimes I wonder how deep I want to get into them, the 22 lr is so simple. LOL. I love shooting the little 30s and it is nice to get trigger time in the back yard at low cost and plenty...

    HW30s pellet testing continued

Once again, thanks for sharing your experience. I don't want to mess up the gun by shooting heavies. Did not realize that could be an issue! That is what makes this a good forum, you folks are generous with your knowledge.

    HW30s pellet testing continued

I know it sounds odd, but they were one ragged hole, after all some folks shoot this gun in .22!! I understand, the 10.3's would be a rainbow much beyond 25.... but they are driving tacks inside 25 and hit like a little hammer.

    HW30s pellet testing continued

That is SOME GOOD shooting!! Inspiring me to keep on getting trigger time!!

    HW30s pellet testing continued

Will give them a go, out to 25 they should do quite well on paper, not sure I'd want to shoot a squirrel out there with one, now those 10.3g JSB have my interest for 25 yd squirrel.

    HW30s pellet testing continued

I received more pellets so today I continued testing pellets in the new HW30s. It has a Vortek PG4 tune kit and seal in it. The gun has about 500 shots through it, about 300 since the tune. I think it is just beginning to settle in. It has a Bugbuster 3-12x on it. Today was 28 degrees, no wind...

Acceptable average 20 yd springer accuracy??

OK will post a pic next good day to shoot!! We have snow coming so might be a couple days!

Acceptable average 20 yd springer accuracy??

Thanks for the input guys, it helps me calibrate. I'm covering quite a few 10 shot groups with a quarter at 20 yds, standing and using a post to rest my hand on. The little HW30s is just starting to settle in with around 350 shots after dropping the tune kit in. I'm figuring out how she likes to...

Acceptable average 20 yd springer accuracy??

So you got yourself a quality HW spring gun, put a tune kit in it, put a decent scope on it, put a couple tins through it. Not talking about your best day, just your average performance, 10 shot groups 20 yards, what do you expect? ctc measured, not show boating. I'm asking because I really...
