Probably so, but you probably paid what? $19 for it? Some basic hand tools/files, a little buffing etc could have probably improved it some.

They are quite solid rifles and well built for such a low cost. Besides that they are a training tool and fairly accurate. I have seen a couple of these that have seen hard use for at least 40 years or more.

Of course I didn't! Probably didn't take it so seriously at the time, considering the price. I do remember it was pretty much as though I had pulled the trigger on a 22LR. I like to see replies to my threads, even if they're over a year old. My son has grown so much now he's up to shooting...

Jim I also bought a Caiman last year when UA was having the clearance sale. A 25cal standard Caiman w/wood stock. Just like you I also had some teething issues with it. First problem I had was that I received my Caiman missing the 2 main cap scews and cups that hold the gun together! lol...
