Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

Well, now it is just the wait for the brown truck, my Blitz in .22 is on it's merry way. Frisco guns in TX had a good deal. Yup I feel that frustration working on stuff, allow me to make some suggestions that really do reduce the frustration of working on these PCP guns for us older guys. 1...

Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

I ordered up an assortment of pellets, I have a bottle and fill whip on the way. I've been charging the Beeman directly from my Yong Heng clone it fills it up quick. An air bottle will be a good thing. I'll take the chance on expired SCBA, I'll hedge my bet by filling it inside a heavy cabinet...

N/A Smart people, please jump in!

Glad I have an admittedly old chronograph. I'm anxious to see how pellet weight and shape impacts velocity and of course accuracy. Only accurate guns are interesting. I've got some paperwork intruding on my fun time this week, a few shots in the backyard helps to break up the desk time. I HATE...

Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

Whenever I visit Florida or Las Vegas, well they have quite a few places one can rent and shoot full auto. I have yet to participate, money tends to fall out of my pockets in those two places anyhow, always a higher priority for the $$$. 5.56 / .223 is the cheapest rifle round, 37-38 cents a...

    Old Bushnell scope line hierarchy?

I pulled the rings off the old Bushnell to prepare it for it's new home on the Hatsan Blitz. No wonder it looked and felt so solid. It is a Scopechief VI 2.5 X 8 X 32. Glass is super nice both in and out, has that nice old gloss finish too. BTW black magic marker is perfect for touching up the...

N/A Smart people, please jump in!

I would not want to take many shots at distance with the chronograph, I've managed to not shoot it for over twenty years, I'd like to keep it that way. That said, should be very doable, don't push your luck. The shot window is fairly large on my old Chrony. It has always been enough chronograph...

N/A Smart people, please jump in!

Get very dialed in on the distant targets. Set up a chronograph in front of your target, perhaps with a piece or two of 3/4 plywood shielding the Chronograph "box" itself. Might clip a screen or support rod with a pellet, but protect the costly part. WIth regard to energy, it is the velocity we...

Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

My little Yong Heng clone compressor is working great. I've a 30 min. SCBA tank and adapter with whip on 8 mm QD's on the way. I have maybe 5 min. total run time on it now, takes less than a minute to fill the 2028. I'll fill the tank once and then do an oil change on the compressor. Fortunately...

Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

Let's take the cost of the gun out of the equation for a moment. How many folks get to shoot full auto at a VERY reasonable cost of 3 cents per round? If I had a PB full auto how much could I afford to shoot it? That is cost of the gun itself not considered. I'd need a sign at the freeway on...

    Tuning Red dot on pistol

I think I will scope my 2028, tho I am OK with the sights it comes with. 3/8" dovetail means I will need some rail adapters to put a decent scope on it. For now the iron sights are quite usable. I'm anxious to check velocity later today, need to pick up some 9V batteries. It was hitting 825 with...

Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

Time and patience can fix that. I've a .270 and 30/06 Mauser powder burners, basically two flavors of vanilla, great guns. I'm currently accumulating the parts to make a 300 Win mag of the 30/06, no hurry I've have the .270 if the need to hunt big game comes up. Looking for a barrel now, picked...

    Recommend a rifle

I'm new, but .22 pellets are not going to achieve .22 LR energy levels. A .22 LR is dangerous a mile or more away. Plenty of calculators out there for plugging in velocity and pellet weight to produce an energy figure. .22 LR is a much heavier projectile, even if we can achieve the same velocity...

    Red dots

Yup I only see one very tiny dot with my genuine Romeo 5. My never listens to me brother found a "better deal" he did not bother to be certain he was buying from a Sig-Sauer dealer. I paid 50 bucks more, mine holds zero, his....does not. You can tell him, but can't tell him much. He did not buy...

Tuning No Hobby For Old Men

IMO backyard and basement make all the difference in the world. By the time I load up the spotting scope, the chrono, the guns well heck I need a nap before I go. And my PB range is less than ten minutes away. Prior to jumping in the deep end of PCP's my toy fund was saving for a can, so I could...

    Beeman New 2027 pistol!

I am a resident of Washington state, the gun laws here changed recently. So far the 2028 likes the Crosman hollow points from Wally world just fine shooting offhand. I have a pellet assortment coming soon to further explore it's accuracy. Got it on the Chrono yesterday, hit 825 FPS with the...

    Old Bushnell scope line hierarchy?

Hmm, the 2.5-8 is a really nice old Bushnell, not a Sportview. Made In Japan, gold Lettering Bushnell in small letters on the turret. I'm guessing about 42 it is not marked. Very high quality supersmooth adjustable objective, for an oldie it is quite bright. I think I found a good one, I shall...

    Red dots

I think the Sig Sauer Romeo 5 punches above it's weight class, I can get a very tiny dot at low intensity with it, I also find less of the double dot phenomena with it. It is rated at 2 MOA, I've not run it on an air gun yet, might give it a try after late deer season. So far I like it a lot...

    My best deal ! What's yours ?

Man I could have hooked you up a week ago or so, I swear I brought ten to the dump old TV's and monitors. Perhaps someone could have told my old renters that E waste is free at the dump. Man those big old TV's were heavy.

    Old Bushnell scope line hierarchy?

Me too! I've an old 2.5 X 8 X 42 Bushnell, it's a great solid scope. I've a no name made by Bushnell for Browning back in the day, brightest scope I own. My new Hatsan Blitz will wear that Bushnell from my junk pile, cuz it ain't junk. It is a Sportview but higher end.

    Bushnell the older ones!

I keep a weather eye out for old made in Japan Bushnell scopes, I am shopping for my Hatsan Blitz and don't have the toy fund to support an optic at this time. I've been accumulating powder burners for 50 years now, no one would call it a collection, collections have themes. :) Guess what I...
