Kroil oil was never designed to be a rust inhibitor to my knowledge, Kroil is a penetrating oil, and probably the best penetrating oil in my opinion. It also pairs and works extremely well with JB non-embedding bore polishing compound for cleaning/removing lead and copper fouling.
