Events 01/28/2023 Xtreme Field Target at Phoenix Rod and Gun Club--PLEASE NOTE THE TIME OF MATCH

(they're not all that small, this teeny tiny kill zone was more of a joke than what can typically be expected)

There will be a daytime match on Jan 28th at PRGC. Targets out to 100 yards, up to .30 and 100fpe allowed. 12 lanes, 2 targets per lane, 2 shots per target for a total of 48 shots, knock it down to get a point, if the target is still standing after a shot, zero points.

Shoot from a backless stool or bucket with bipod/shooting sticks. Maximum scope power of 25x. Dialing turrets or holdover allowed. Laser rangefinders allowed, although target distance will be provided.

Current record is held by Mike S, an impressive 45/48 shot with .22 JSB Monster Redesigned pellets weighing 25.4grains. And important to note that slugs and subsonic rimfire are allowed at XFT @ PRGC matches, and yet a pellet shooter still holds high score......We'll see if that record holds.

Schedule-wise we're doing things a bit differently in January. We've had midday matches, and we've had night matches, but January will be our first evening match. PRGC's big Arizona State Revolver Championship is also taking place on the 28th so we're working around them a bit. From how that has gone in past years, range officials expect that revolver match to finish around 230-300pm.

We're shooting (pun intended) for a tentative start time of 3pm for the Xtreme Field Target match. Shooters meeting at 230pm. Sight-in will be from 200-230 and may be limited to only 25 yards. Please meet right inside the front gate (should be the first place vehicles are parked, about 50 yards inside the gate). Shooters meeting will take place right there.

Please be understanding of the conflicting time schedules here, we're at the mercy of the revolver match.

Ben asked that I note there will be a move back towards strict enforcement of time-limits. Each shooter gets 4 minutes to take 4 shots at each lane. This is similar to what can be expected at American Field Target during Extreme Benchrest each October. So it is great practice, and knowing the time is ticking away really ups the fun factor. Timers will be handed out and Ben is not putting out any lights, ie, hold to the rules, shoot within the 4 minute time limit for each lane, and we'll all get done before dark. Sunset in late Jan should be around 545pm. 2hrs and 45 minutes is more than plenty of time to take 48 shots and move between 12 shooting stations.

Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend, as are first-timers, rimfire shooters, and anybody else that simply wants to have a good time.

We have been told by a handful of shooters that there is a PRS/NRL? match on Sunday the 29th at a different range in the PHX Metro area. Plan a trip to Phoenix this weekend and shoot both matches!

For any questions, please contact Ben Spencer, Match Director (and originator of the concept of monthly extreme field target matches) at: 480-694-6973. You can also PM myself here on AGN, or even ask right in this thread. One way or another, we'll get your questions answered.

Come on out and enjoy the fun!

Hey, who is that schmuck in the top photo? :ROFLMAO: I'll be there, and also shoot the NRL-22 match the following day at Rio Salado.
The 4-minute time is MORE than enough, since per shot it is more than is given at the EBR EFT match. Typical EFT for GP series is 1 min + (1/2min * # of shots). In this case 1 + (1/2 * 4) = 3 minutes, so no reason not to get all your shots in. If you've shot EBR EFT, you know its 5 minutes for 8 shots.

I spoke with Ben a bit and he asked me to remind everybody about the match, so, here's the reminder.

13 days til the match

He also had a few things to add.
  • PRGC informed him earlier today that they've reduced the match fee for the Xtreme Field Target matches. New fee is $20 for non-PRGC members, and $15 if you're a member of Phoenix Rod and Gun Club. Very kind of them to make it just a little easier on our wallets to get out and shoot, especially in this day and age of inflation and prices on EVERYTHING are going up. Thank you PRGC!!!
  • As noted in the initial match announcement, for this Jan 28th match, we're at the mercy of the big revolver match. Start time for the XFT match is a tentative 3:00pm.
  • Xtreme Field Target at PRGC will not tolerate any airgun industry politics occurring at matches. While this is mostly NOT at the average shooter level, it is pervasive and proportionally trends up the "food chain". So, although not a common problem for those of us that just enjoy airguns and want to shoot for fun with our friends, Ben wants to keep it fun and enjoyable by prohibiting this sort of behavior.
    • What does this look like?
      • All shooters will be required to follow the same rules, there will be no preferential treatment or exceptions made for "sponsored" shooters.
      • Any verbal denigration of a brand of airgun will result in immediate disqualification. This is activity typically demonstrated by those often deemed "fanbois" towards a brand that they have not aligned themselves with.
      • Mutual respect to other shooters is not only the expectation, but the requirement.
      • All shooters are considered equals at XFT @PRGC.
    • Why? Because there are too many lines in the sand in the rest of airgunning already and Ben wants his matches to be neutral ground. All shooters of all brands of airguns are welcome, as long as they are respectful towards others, regardless of affiliation.

Get your 20-100 yard dope figured out in the next 2 weeks (13 days) and come give it a shot!!! (pun intended)

Just checked the weather for general South Mtn area, per NWS.....

Saturday
Sunny, with a high near 65. East wind around 5 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
Saturday Night
Clear, with a low around 41. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight.

Sounds like very light general head wind, transitioning to a tailwind. But, under 5mph aint too bad at all.

Maybe remember a jacket since it's a late afternoon/evening match.

I'm excited, seems like it's been a long time since a match.

lol, The car said 9 degrees on the way to work an hr ago. The drive home mon night and back tues morning was packed snow the entire way. Took 10 minutes to dig my vehicle out of the snowbank that had built around it. We got 8-10inches at work and 3 or 4 inches at my house about 1500ft lower. I think our high today is 32, low for tonight is 8.

So, a high of 65 and a low of 41 down in the low country sounds like a vacation to the tropics!!!
