+1 for the Sarissa in .300 @ >100 fpe

Donny/Rallyshark was the first I recall professing their approval of the Sarissa, and knowing the levels he was pushing his maverick I considered his experience to be a good reference.

Recently I built a .300 B-rod contraption that was assembled mostly from my junk/excess parts. It is powered by a modified version of Don C's Powerhouse valve. 24.5" of TJ's 1:26 twist .300 barrel top it off. Unregulated it will easily do 160-170fpe on 3000psi with 68gr ammo. While that is "fun", that isn't the normal use. Normally it is regulated, somewhere between 2000psi and 2400 psi, and tuned for 100-125fpe.

When I first put it together, the best fit of the suppressors I had "in stock" was a DFL Shogun. While the Shogun did indeed take the bite off the B-rod's bark, it was still pretty loud. I would go as far as to describe its loudness level as something less than respectful of my neighbors. I really enjoy shooting this gun and this means I need to quiet it down else risk pissing off the neighborhood.....

I picked up an STO Sarissa with the high flow core. All I can say is WOW!!!!!! I never knew >100fpe could be so quiet. for the most part all I hear is the sound of the guns action/hammer strike. There is virtually no muzzle blast.

If you are operating in the 100fpe range and want quiet, you can't go wrong the Sarissa.

An obligatory pic of my Brod contraption with the Sarissa mounted:

Please excuse the paracord, testing revealed this one desperately needs a barrel band!!! It is so much easier to shoot than with the barrel free floating. A lot less "twitchy"/sensitive to follow through.....A work in process, I hope to figure out a permanent barrel band solution in the not so distant future.....

Awesome build with monster power, read a couple good reviews for the Sarissa, surprised more folks aren’t using them.

Charlie-

I ordered the high flow version. Even though the normal 100fpe tune on this gun is fairly mild. Shot cycle is nice and snappy so it isn't burning too much air. It can dial up to a little less than 200fpe with 3000psi and lugged down with heavy ammo, just for kicks. I really do not have any use for that type of tune....

I appreciate the compliment. I am enjoying this one. I built the bottom end big enough for a .357, with .281 porting. I do not plan to go .357 on it, i just wanted more than enough HP on tap so to speak.... I also have a .22 barrel for it wry up to use Prod mags. I am hoping it will shoot those 34gr MP 5.55 airgun bullets. Initial testing showed 850fps on 2100psi, so there wont be any problem getting up to speed. I need to finish sleeving the barrel and I can start testing .22 slugs. There is also a GM .25 barrel with choke removed, so only 19.5" or so. A 600mm STX superior in .25, and a short LW .300 barrel, 17" or so, IIRC. I like my multi caliber guns.....

It seems that much of the moderator performance equation is application/combination specific. A moderator may work well in a certain application and not so well in another. That is one of the reasons I was fairly detailed/specific in describing my application.

A Ronin with extension, in the applications I've tested is decent, better than an Emperor. But a Ronin by itself is rather disappointing, no matter what I have used it on.

Soon I will have a couple of additional moderators to compare to the Sarissa. But as of right now, in this specific application the Sarissa is the most effective moderator I own. My collection consists of mostly Neil C and for the most part every moderator Donnyfl ever made.

The quietest Donnyfl configuration I tested with this gun was combining his extension with the Shogun. It was almost as quiet as the Sarissa. But way too heavy,....
