10% Discount on New Oneleaf NV500 Scope through October 10th, 2024

Nice video. What type of magnification lens does the nv400 have? I think the 4x option might be a good idea on the 500. Does it improve clarity when trying to magnify at further distance? I would have to see one in person. I don’t like my NV400 anywhere near as much as you like yours. I haven’t tried using it through a nice monitor though only the viewfinder. In the daytime I just think it massively lacks. Especially if you have uneven lighting with shadows.

Thanks for the response. You are correct... I do love these NV400 and NV500 scopes. For me, this scope has so many features packed in a scope that is priced right. The option to record in 4K, send the output to a monitor in a bench environment, interchangeable optic lens, ballistic calculator, crazy good night vision, first and second focal planes, built in range finder, Sony sensor, etc. etc. etc. The NV400 has a fixed 4x zoom that goes out to 52X. The NV500 comes with either 2x or 4x lens, soon will be a 5x and 7x lens.

The clarity gets worse as you zoom because it is digital zoom; this is the one knock I have the NV scopes and any other digital scope. There is no replacement for clear, optical zoom. I use the NV400 and NV500 scope in my backyard and at the 100 yard range when shooting large 12 x 18 paper targets. However, I use a NightForce scope when shooting in 100-yard benchrest competition because I need to define a small pellet hole at 100 yards. The resolution on a digital scope at 100 yards does not work for my old eyes. :)

My RPLY to your RPLY on your YT ( part 1 ) post got deleted as that platform is run by filthy swine, that sensor me severely as i dont let them mine my data.

But i did not use your code, but there is / was a 10 % off on their site, but of course if your 10 % on top of that, well i would have CUZ money well saved.

I did however also order last weekend, so before your video.

Hoping for 7 X or 10 X optical zoom lens, CUZ digital zoom past 3-4 X on a 4K sensor is not something you should do with anything.

What is the distance from the scope to the target? That resolution is unreal!

Also, the discount code in the video didn’t work, says it’s invalid.
Thanks for the heads up on the discount code. It might be because the discounted the scope on the website by 10%. But I was told by Oneleaf the code would give users a 10% discount. I am contacting Oneleaf now and I will follow up soon. Thansk!

NV400 have 4X optical zoom, if you use 13 X digital on top of that you get yo 52 X
The small NV400 have the 2 X optical lens, and so with 13 X digital on top of that you only get to 26X

BUT ! 3-4 X digital zoom on a 4K sensor is sort of fine taking you to the middle 1080p of that 4K image, but zooming in digital even more to those pixels and you soon get a mindcraft / Lego like world to shoot at.

IMHO it is wild they even allow for such high values of digital zoom

I dont expect to be going further than 6 - 8 X digital zoom on the NV500 i have ordered ( 4 X optical lens )
BUT ! if they put out a 7X or even better 10X lens, well they better not make that too expensive CUZ i would want one.

So the way i see it, the 4X NV500 will let me shoot rats and pellet plink at the shorter ranges ( 55 M )
But keep in mind i shoot at small things, if you "just " need to hit the kill box on a deer, you can probably go further in the digital zoom world.

But it would be so nice to shoot my 123 M / 134 Y MAX range, and shoot the 2" targets and flies ASO i will take shots at if i get the chance.
That would be optimal for me.

I know phones will often let you do as big digital zooms, even bigger i think on their main camera ( not the tele one it might have )
But then those are 50 - 64 or even 105 megapixel sensors, where as the 4K sensor in these scopes are just the 8 megapixel it take to make a 4K image.

So 13 X digital zoom on a 64 megapixel sensor will look a lot less blocky than 13 X zoom into a 8 megapixel image sensor.

Just throwing out some general knowledge in case people are not aware of how things work.

image sensor / general INFO

2.1 megapixel will give you a 1080p video image, a 5 megapixel sensor will give you a 1440p video image, and finally a 8 megapixel will give you a 4K video image

+ a little overhead depending on what image aspect ratio you will want to use, the 4:3 which image sensors often are, or the wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio

Sensor overhead / unused pixels is also what allow for things like EIS to work ( Electronic Image Stabilization ) this way when the cameras shake a little, the image can be chased around on the image sensor where it lands, and moved / aligned to the middle so you do not have the shaking video footage.

Okay 1 more, i swear it will be the last one.

The 8 megapixel Sony Starvis sensors in these are a BIG sensor, CUZ the reason it need to be that to host just 8 megapixel is each individual pixel need to be huge to better collect low light.
That is " huge " cuz they are still measured in microns, but 1 micron is a lot smaller than 3-4 micron, it mean a lot in the art of capturing photons of light.

Another route is to do what phone cameras do in low light, they will then take the pixels of the say 64 megapixel sensor, and then bin those into pairs of 4 to that way make one virtual larger more sensitive pixel, but then for night photos with your phone you will get 12 megapixel photos, where as in the daytime using the same camera in the phone you will get 64 megapixel photos.

I have yet to see this pixel binning approach used in dashcams that also need to be able to see stuff in low light, or stuff like these scoped or for that matter CCTV cameras, the latter rely more on purpose build sensors with big pixels.

Yeah I just prefer clear optical zoom. Took the nv400 out hunting. I mean it’s like a camera that always needs tweaking. Need more light here less light over there. I tried it last week at night and it shined there doing a great job. As a daytime scope even for hunting now that I have used it in that manner, it just is to the “kind of sucks” level for me. 🤷‍♂️ everyone else seems to love em. You can get some good glass at the 6-700 dollar level.

Update on 10% discount code from Oneleaf NV500..

To make a long story short... the Oneleaf team went on vacation for a week from Oct 1st to October 6th. So they disabled all discount codes, but they discounted everything on their website, so the 10% discount was still there for everyone without using the discount code. Now that they are back from vacation, my 10% discount code should work and has been extended until October 20th, 2024. They could have communicated this better. Sorry for the confusion.

Nice!! Hope to see more reviews soon. Your channel is quickly becoming my favorite. I noticed in my nv400 manual that if you put brightness and contrast on 50% it acts auto. Who knew. Guess I should read that stuff instead of trying to figure it out myself.
