10 meter Air Pistol Coach - Southwest US

I have been "seriously" shooting 10 M air pistol for a few weeks now and can't get my scores above 70s. I was hoping to find a coach who could give me help, but all of my searches in southern California have turned up only old threads, outdated information and closed clubs. Sureley there are a few 10 meter air pistol shooters among the 23,800,500 (in 2016) people in SC!

Perhaps another tactic would be to meet somewhere and shoot or trade information?

Oldbear…. My wife and I just returned this morning from three days of training with Silvino Lyra in Boise. I’d love to trade information; but there is no way that I could help you like he, or perhaps other professional coaches could. He broke down our shooting into the smallest components. From stretching, to dry fire practice, mental work, breathing, trigger work, sighting, eyesight, strength exercises, etc. For the first half of the training, it was the essential basics - sitting position from a bench support. That really works the breathing and trigger and cadence. Once we were in the 90s from a sitting position on a bench with one hand, we were ready to start addressing the instabilities and challenges of the standing position.

If you are ever in the Boise area, I strongly suggest that you make an appointment. His fees are very reasonable and do not break the bank. This gentleman absolutely loves the sport and is very passionate about his coaching!

We trained two or three hours a day for three days. We made tremendous improvement in just 9 hours total of training. And now, we won’t be practicing and reinforcing bad habits. Perfect practice is vital!

I'll keep you posted.

I purchased a Steyr EVO 10 Compact with mechanical trigger. The folks at Pilkguns are very knowledgeable regarding target pistol. Initially, I was interested in the full size (longer barrel) pistol. But after talking with them, I decided on the compact model due to my lack of experience.

How about you? Which pistol did you purchase?
