100 yard pellet Benchrest which rig?

I shoot regular Field Target out of Concord and Ione.

Where are you shooting FT?

Just trying to understand ...you would switch to FX Panthera? for benchers?
Anticipating some problems with the RW? or not the right caliber?

Right now Dana is running N50 bench rest out of Sunnyvale. I PM him about offering 100 yards bench rest....no response yet.
I shoot out at Ione as well. This is Cameron W, we may have met.

The issue with the RW for benchrest is not being able to tune it on the fly with external adjustments. You gotta take it out of the stock and hook it up to a programmer, or get a heliboard with a lot of different settings. The standard 3 preset settings don’t cut it in my opinion. But, the Redwolf I had shot MOA in calm wind conditions at 100 yards out of the box with the .25cal 33 grain pellets. It didn’t really need any tuning.

Now I don’t compete in benchrest at the moment, but I know about tuning a FX and Daystate. FX seems the way to go because from what I gather those guys tune during a match depending on a change in weather conditions.

Cameron!!!
You the newbie kicking ass with your RW in FT.

I'm Jim. I'm the crazy guy shooting WFTF springers.

I might need to shoot your RW to see if I want to get one....or maybe buy a FX Panthera. I'm planning on spending more money to participate in 100 yards Bench rest in the near future. I know John Bagakis shoots a RW (he competes in bench rest and other events)...might need to track him down and ask him about his RW.

Short list are:
RW
Panthera
Red Panda
Skout?

Everyone seems to be going to 30 caliber
You got any rifles that you think should go on my short list?

Even after 41 postings...still researching ...nothing final...no clear winner. Maybe hands on experience will help the process.

Then to confuse things even more, you got companies like SubMOA selling custom barrels for these guns. Spending more money chasing accuracy.

Hey Jim! I only have a Redwolf in .177 right now, but same deal just a lot less power. My panthera is tuned for slugs, but you are more than welcome to shoot it. If I was in your shoes I’d go with a panthera, or impact.

I’d get involved with 100 yard benchrest, but there is no club near us that do it!

It is a total rat race! Fx is proven and their liners are good. Can’t go wrong.

@JP806TX why aren't you at EBR?
LOL
I've been shooting springers in FT for over 23? years.
So this high power stuff is totally brand new to me.

I've got two relatively low power PCP that I don't shoot.

Bringing my TX200 to EBR is like bringing a pocket knife to a gun fight.

I need to upgrade my arsenal and practice bench rest (a whole new game) before I shoot against the best.

PowderBurnt you in EBR? Have we met?

They have springer shooters there, I believe. We met in Ashland for tge FT there. Paul. Ugly dude. Lol

You might want to look at the RTI MORA. Like I said in my first reply, stay away from rifles with a lot of o rings. fighting an oring problem is no fun, in my case a FX M2 Impact that has something like 30-40 o rings. I only finished 1 match of of 6 without a o ring failure. I don't even shoot it anymore and it isn't worth 1/2 of what I paid for it. Mostly because FX comes out with a new model every year if not 2x year. I have won with my Red Wolf and RAW rifles because they haven't let me down because of an o ring problem. My 0.02

My choice would be a Skout
Love the performance
The addition of the after market barrels are fantastic. I have yet to try the Sub-Moa barrels. I can say that the Lothar Walther Bull barrel is performing with outstanding accuracy. These are heavy barrels, but since it is for BR, should not be a problem.
The ease of tuning the rifle is so quick, especially if you have digital manometers to gauge the regulator pressure.
Although i keep the same barrel for both 50 and 100 yard, one can easily swap out barrel and probe in under 5 minutes
The support team at Skout is outstanding ..willing to help till the problem is solved
I enjoyed meeting the team at EBR..very nice and helpful people.
I look forward to their next innovation
Mike

OP. Might want to look at latest shooting competitors equip list. As you said there are no clear winners. But there are indicators, over the past few years, found in the top 10 competitors/equipment. As you can imagine of all those top winners, none of them are using 'stock' rifles. Then imagine the price of converting a "stock" rifle into a competitor. As you said, "Pay once and cry once."
Recently someone posted the good idea to start short and move on. USARB for 25m, N50 for 50y, then the long range stuff. Those guys will trip over each other to teach you. Go to a competition and watch, invariably, someone will offer you a backup to try.
Shameless. Yes I am... https://www.national50.net/

Well at the current time 30 cal is being used a lot because of the .07 bc pellets you can get, 25 cal being slightly less popular and 22 being least popular because of the inconsistent 25.39 pellets. Guns are a toss to barrel lottery and me personally i like athlon scopes. If you start down this hole you’ll be at the will of the pellet mfg’s and the barrel mfg’s as in the last few years things are changing rapidly. Me personally i have a 25 ghost.
What are the highest BC pellets in the 30 cal? The new AEA?
