Jump on that Vet that Yo mentioned. Hand pumping a shorty will be better than a standard or long. I hand pumped my Vet standard once. I am in good shape and was thinking this is just plain stupid.

Not going to lie im a little worried about this hand pumping, I mean watching a video is one thing, doing it is another, ill try it out, maybe ill end up getting a compressor... This is going to turn into a very expensive hobby.

I just bought a pre-owned Taipan Veteran standard in .22 as my first nice air rifle. I love everything about it. I plan to use it on starlings, sparrows and the occasional groundhog. If you can find a Veteran in your price range I would jump on it. 



If using predominantly for groundhogs, I would consider getting a .25. Keep in mind .25 ammo is more expensive and you will also get less shots per fill. Good luck!

Absolutely the Benjamin Marauder, Field and Target .22, comes regulated, with picatinny rail, and Lothar Walther barrel. $700. Still have room to buy a compressor OR a Ninja 90ci fill station. The Benjamin Marauder is American Made and hand pump friendly.

I was just looking at this gun, i like the upgrades it has from the original one.

Man that taipan is beautiful and prob would be the perfect gun. Although i am weird when it comes to buying stuff used, Being this is my first pcp gun i dont want one thats been upgraded or modified, Too me thats the fun in part of this, upgrading it my self and learning about the gun. Thanks everyone for all the answers, imma have to sit down and weigh out my options, i didnt expect to wake up and see so many responses. thanks everyone

Read Kdog's post on used airguns again. I can verify that buying used off the classifieds is a good way to get a near new, tested airgun. I've 2 of Kdog's used airguns and they are both exceptional (and he got them used). Aside from some wear on the boxes the guns look new or better.

Personally I'd get the Taipan 25 for what you are doing. If you can place the shots well on the ground hogs (40 yards or less, YMMV) 22 gives you pellet access at the local stores and more shots per pumping session. Great triggers. No point-of-impact changes. Read the reviews on the different guns when it comes to point-of-impact (POI) shifts with storage and handling. For a hunting gun POI shift can make or break your hunting day.

One thing that may have been missed is the pump. You say you already have one, however if it is a time pump it will not work! You can only pump high pressure with a hi pressure pump. tier pumps only reach a little over 100PSI. You need to reach 3000 psi or close. Read up on HILL pumps and very high pressure hand pumps. If you already understand, then no offense intended . Great feed back and the Taipan will kick your buddies tail big time.

Veteran - I had a compact model in .25 cal and it was unreal.. Their triggers are amazing and then some.

Cricket - I had a Mini Carbine [more rifle than bullpup configuration] in .22 cal. One of my all time favorite guns.

Puncher Breaker - I still have two of them, both in .22 cal. Very underrated by some - Awesome little guns..

I understand some people's hesitation about buying certain things used, 
but on here, the members usually take the utmost care of their rifles.. 
Of the mentioned rifles, 3 of the 4 were purchased used / here. All were as good or better than new.

I've been closely studying the airgun industry and all its products for about 2 years now, and am also interested 

in making the wisest choice in my next PCP, especially since I was recently robbed of all my possessions. In the price

range your talking about, the AIrforce Condor and\or Escape, have lots of power, but with a Lothar Walther barrel, and 

that power dial is huge, as it allows you to use that rifle like its 3 different rifles with preset power levels. The only

flaw in Airforce products is that they're single shot, which brings me to my final suggestion: The Seneca Sumatra 2500

in .22 or .preferably .25, whose magazine can fit any pellet on the market, and can shoot a 57 grain slug with 103 foot 

pounds of energy behind it, or lower the power dial to just shoot a mouse in a kitchen without a set level of power that

might put a deep hole in one's kitchen floor, Again, impressive power and accuracy for both close and long range hunting,

a power dial with a wide range of power one can fine tune to work optimally with their projectile of choice, in a 6 round

repeater that hearkens back to the west, with a revolver style magazine and a fully operational underlever that mimicks

a Winchester. If you go with the Seneca, remember to firmly seat your pellets/slugs in the magazine, or they will slide

around when moving the rifle. I wish you success and satisfaction with your final decision, and in your hunting expeditions.
