I was trying to wrap my head around a previous members post about the " cold bore shot."I have landed in your boat. How reliable is the first "warm bore" shot? I learned that I can make almost any pcp airgun group with enough time or sighter shots. Cracking off that first shot at a pigeon and not damaging any surrounding property is my goal. Like my pump gun had to be as a kid.
It's backwards on this side. My ronin gets refrigerator cold as I shoot on the higher powered gun at any moderate pace. Poi shift from cooling was a real factor until I did all the things I did to my impact. It's a strange inverted shooting world with air sometimes.I was trying to wrap my head around a previous members post about the " cold bore shot."
For a powder burner I can certainly understand this concept. But an airgun? Decompressd air is cold. I think you have made a valid point about " warm bore" shot.
With that said yesterday I shot several 12 shot groups out of my epoch at 73 yards. Best I could do was 10 of 12 shots were 1”. Didn’t measure the fliers but probably 1.5-2 moa with those. That was 73 yards not 100. Not calm but not crazy. Definitely wouldn’t be anywhere near moa consistently. Yeah I’m sure if I shot enough groups I could cherry pick a couple. I definitely have work to do past 50 yards for sure.ZZZ….just go on backfire channel on YouTube and search his MOA challenge. That was with centerfire rifles and almost no one that showed up could pull it off. Everyone can online though.
Yeah there was a relatively big YouTuber that used to make crazy trick shots regularly at 100 yards with his avengers and Ruger 10/22 s. Really impressive stuff actually. Then goes to a big major comp two years in a row and s the bed both years. Editing is a wonderful thing. I don’t think they post much anymore.Who cares what the clowns on youtube do.
Wow! So he actually got to the point of believing his own bullsh#t. If that’s the case, the bored late night airgun video junkie doesn’t stand a chance. Before editing, if we saw it on a video, it was credible. So that must be embedded in us. Not now. A guy could make a Daisy Red Ryder slug video. People need to wake up.Yeah there was a relatively big YouTuber that used to make crazy trick shots regularly at 100 yards with his avengers and Ruger 10/22 s. Really impressive stuff actually. I call it a cold shot because I compare it to everything in life. A cold start with my truck is the first time I turned the key that day. A cold sprint is me blasting off without stretching. It has zero to do with the temperature of my gun. A warmed up gun is not physically hot. It’s just had enough shots put through it that it’s finally functioning consistently. I never refer to a cold shot with my gun as a cold bore shot ever. It’s an airgun. You guys are adding an additional word.I was trying to wrap my head around a previous members post about the " cold bore shot."

Nice delayed THWACK!With my project all shooting beyond 100 yard gun I’ve moved past the printing group phase a year or so ago. Now it’s been all about how far I can trust that gun on a first cold shot. But when I was in the average group size phase, this particular gun was required to have all groups covered by a quarter at 100. But I’m not talking about a couple shooting sessions. I’m talking about months of shooting data and saved groups. It’s not every day that you have conditions that you can trust what you’re printing. These aren’t powder burners. They are limp biscuits. I have a ton of other guns and projects so it wasn’t all about burning myself out on just one gun. But once I knew the gun was always going to do what it was supposed to if I did what I’m supposed to at 100, I moved to the how far can I trust this thing on a cold shot.
Ironic this topic pops up because I just cold shot a red today at 130 yards with a 18 day cold shot. So while I’m sure we will see some impressive groups in a topic like this, I’m only interested in guns that will do it cold. This gun will also do mice off this feeder cold shots. Lots of work and testing to the point I got sick of it. But worth it now.
I have noticed the opposite with airguns. I was shooting last night, outdoors. It was calm. Still slight current , but calm. I noticed that the first 3 or 4 shots were smoking dead on. One tiny little hole with Altaros 32.3 grain slugs. So I continued shooting in succession one right after the other. And sure enough point of impact started changing radically, along with strange fliers sometimes 3 inches out. Just really weird. I was like, this gun shouldn't be doing this. So after a few more shots in succession and watching this become worse. I pulled the shroud off the barrel, and put my hand on it and it was ice cold. I'm telling you, " ICE cold.I call it a cold shot because I compare it to everything in life. A cold start with my truck is the first time I turned the key that day.
