N/A 100yds groups ....No "White Lies"... No " Stroking the Salami" ... just be honest ..

OP - Here is the link to Mike’s “slugs in the rings” at 100Y Challenge thread. It’s a long and older thread, but if you are patient and read through it, you will see many 5-shot scoring groups at 100y with air guns and my .22 LR Anschutz cards also.

The challenge is deceptively difficult for an air rifle ( and even for a .22 RF) because of how small the ring sizes are for 100y and managing wind drift. At the time, the intent was to see how both .22 RF and air rifles shooting slugs would compare at 100Y.

I think Mike recorded several “2500” perfect scores with 40g slugs, which still boggles my mind. Think of it this way; a shooter needs to shoot MOA or sub MOA for 25 shots to get a ‘2500’! My best with an airgun was 1875, and I never came closer than that with pellets. As a matter of interest, there are some pretty good air guns now shooting 38-40g slugs which might do very well, if we could see some cards.

Edit: I was curious so I took out my Caliper and measured the diameter of the N50 ring which is 1.25.” So, technically you can be approximately 1.15” from hole to hole inside the ring for it to count as 100 score, as long as no hole touches the outer ring lines.

I had that gun. Derrick ended up with it. lol It was very accurate. I just never liked its looks. Although, it was a hand picked stock at AoA.
It would absolutely do groupings like the ones you have posted..
In fact, I think Derrick used it in a competition.( I may be wrong about that, but I do know, that he knows how accurate that gun was.) Either placed , or won it. It's been so long, I can't remember what happened with that.
But here is the gun.

Beautiful furniture! Mine has a pepper laminate which is really nice but that one is outstanding.

Kinda new to all of this, but I do have a question. Considering that we are shooting compressed air from a storage tank, isn't the barrel always cold? If anything, according to the laws of physics, the air will get hotter when it's compressed into the bottle, and cool down over time until it approaches ambient. When it is released from the bottle, it will be cooler. Or so I believe.

A word of caution: I still believe in the Easter Bunny and the Great Pumpkin......

This evening... very good conditions .....re wind..

36gr H&N @ 985 ish

12 groups of various counts.. A couple of very good sub moa groups and some not so good...and one very weird "Flyer" ( the one out all by itself on the left section!! )

If you overlay all these groups it translates to a smidgen over 1.5 moa.

Also interesting is the changing POI over the entire string of groups..
