CHUCK, I have forgotten what speed you are indexing the liners with the FX Hybrids. Are both the Superior standard and the heavy producing the same FPS with the FX Hybrids? I am very impressed, as you are shooting slugs, with my .30 700mm (in an MK3) shooting JSB 44.75 @950 out to 130yds with the new 1:22 TR Superior Standard. I will be testing and indexing my MK3, on your recommendation, using NSA slugs in the 43g and 47G weight as well as the JSB 50G pellets, all out to 100yds as a benchmark to share.

Glem, as I am sure you know the Slug liner A in 700mm was 1:40 TR. Since then there has been 4 "superior" iterations since, 1:37, 1:26, 1:22 and the heavy @ 1:18

I will report how the NSA 43 and 47 work in my 1:22.

Not sure of the leade though.

I take an engraver and etch a line at the 12:00 position, and use a paint pen to paint over and into the etched line. It’ll wear off, but it takes a long, long time. 

Ive been making it a habit after epoxying a carbon fiber sleeve over my liner, to write down all pertinent information, using a silver sharpie-

I’m not gonna act like “I’ve been there, done that “ with indexing and properly marking up your liner for reference. It was Mr. CHUCK that schooled me on all of this two years ago. Lets just say I went thru a long distance, remote apprenticeship with him, and I’m thankful he took me under his wing.

GlemChalley: Sorry but I can't really answer your questions yet because my only experience with my new Superior Heavy so far was testing the Hybrids through it two days ago. The leade was fine for the Hybrids - not too tight & needed no adjustment - the twist rate of 1:18" just won't stabilize the Hybrids very well...which is to be expected because the Heavy was designed to stabilize the longer slugs after all. 

The leade on my old .30 cal. Slug A liner was too tight though...I cured that problem by using one of the small cone shaped stone things on my Dremel Tool to open it up to a more coned shape, and then used 400, 800, 1200, 2000 wet/dry sandpaper on the tip of the Dremel thing wet to polish the leade after reshaping it. After that the NSA's just dove into the liner headfirst with perfect alignment and no wobble. I didn't have to do that with my Superior Hybrid liner though because the Hybrids feed perfectly as is.

I know you like the NSA slugs and in the past I did like them for their accuracy...its just that none of them in .30 cal. will expand even at 1070 ft/s! Here is a photo of an NSA 54.5 grain hollow point slug shot at 30 yards through three one gallon jugs & two one liter containers filled with water...the nose of the slug is barely even dented and that's only because it hit the plywood target backer after it went through all the water filled jugs!



Now look at this photo of what's left of a couple Hybrids that hit a one liter container filled with water...and with No Pass Through!



And here is a photo illustrating the expansion of the Hybrids when shot into a coconut at 30 yards...with No Pass Through! Whereas the NSA just pass straight through leaving a tiny entrance and exit hole but impart almost no energy to the coconut, the Hybrids on the other hand imparted 100% of their energy on impact!





And here is one last photo for showing a direct comparison of the lack of expansion of the NSA hollow point slug, and the perfect expansion of an FX Hybrid hollow point slug... This is why my dedicated "projectile of choice" for my rifle is definitely the FX Hybrid Hollow Points. I spent a ton of money and put hundreds of hours into testing everything from everyone out there for a year and a half and nothing else even came close to the expansion of these Hybrids. 

Thanks for the write-up Chuck! I'm really surprised how little that NSA expanded through 30+ inches or so of water? Amazing, i have some clay and have shot the .22s into it with great expansion even from my pistol at around 500fps they were opening up a bit. Maybe with the .30 the wall is so thick around the HP.

Anyways appreciate the knowledge, yeah those hybrids are spectacular.

Which engraver do you use? Where do you place the mark?
