10M benchrest, front bag?

Guys I've finally got my inside bench finished and have set up my indoor range, needs work on the lighting but that's another story. I'm shooting off a Bald Eagle cast iron Slingshot rest with a Bald Eagle 2 1/4 front bag and I don't really like the way my 300S rides in the bag. It slides around pretty easy and even using the stop the rifle it moves around side to side. In fact I prefer my cheap Caldwell front bag with a suede saddle, the rifle is much more stable but its not tall enough.

What bags are you guys using or recommend?

Thanks, Justin

This is the miminum I would recommend for precision shooting. There are others costing 10x as much as this one which do much better jobs but IMHO this one is cheap enough for precision airgun use and worth every penny if you are an accuracy nut.

This is fine for testing your rifle and pellets. But, be advised that such a contraption is not legal in many forms of bench rest competition. It's sort of the equivalent of the rail gun class in center fire bench rest, which is really a competition of precision machining and ammo prep, with little relation to actually knowing how to shoot.

Its sorta like cheating because it takes away the human error factor correct? I can understand and agree with the logic but I don't think everyone here is into bench rest competition though. That is helpful information if I ever decide on competing in bench rest competition.

I think most want to know what their gun is capable of doing at long distances in general for bragging rights as well as confidence in their gun and pellet testing.

I am giving you a +1 since I learned something from you.

I have had good luck using this adapter on my FWB300 alongside my Bald Eagle rest. With this adapter I can easily switch back and forth with my light varmit AA MPR . I got it from Brownells

This is first time I tried posting a site ,Hope it comes out.

How wide is the adapter?

Thanks, Justin

BadDart,

I have that Sinclair adapter as well and shoot from a Bald Eagle rest.

I have change mine top though running a Randolf top rest on mine as I like the turnbuckle style clamp bag arrangement on the Randolfs.

It took making an adapter to mount but the combination works very very nice.

Interesting top Terry. The bag i have fits my 22-250 which is what it was bought for. I have some teflon that I'd like to use for an adapter similar to the one Mitch posted. The only issue is I need some way to attach it to the rail and I haven't came up with anything yet. I'm thinking about just buying the Sinclair adapter and cutting it down and adding the teflon to the bottom. This would be the simplest solution.

Thanks, Justin

Yeah I have the adapter that Mitch is using and it works very well.

It is very nice in that I had problems with my airguns rolling in the rest and the sinclair gives a nice flat wide base that does not roll.

That combined with the Randolf top makes for a very secure combination.

I have used the stock Bald Eagle bag on my Bald eagle and it was a pain to get a consistently level gun from shot to shot.

The caldwell front bag you linked plus a nice protector or the caldwell rear bag is perfectly fine you would be surprised how accurate you can be with that set up,we used to call em (bag squeezers in my day) you would always see a few guys shooting this way when I started in centerfire Br. Sometimes this is actually more accurate because of the harmonics & vibration dampening effects, especially in a springer! Just have to practice on consistency of hold etc. GOOD LUCK!
