11/11/23 Turkey opener

NorCal is the place to be.
Set up my son with his first bird, first time pulling a trigger on a full sized airgun

I think the mike on my phone, right next to our mouths, exaggerate the volume, but if you watch the preface of the vid, the hens and youths were pretty engaged with each other. There's about 15 minutes not shown where my son and I were standing, watching and some of the birds keyed on us. In the video you can see about 25 birds- originally, there were over 40 of them. They were gathered when we first rolled up, but began to break apart into their sub flocks shortly after we arrived. We wouldn't have gotten away with it in the spring, for sure. This a picture of one of the flocks hanging around after I had shot today's bird, practiced for next sunday's ft match, and then cleaned the bird.
If you don't spook the birds after you shoot one and the area is desirable, the birds will hold until they feel the need to move on. Right now, the spot is keeping a large number of bird on the premise. That could change at any time though.

@0akhonor Thanks for that info. Helluva shot to the back of the head. How far out was he shooting from?

not far, about 40 yards. My shot on the second bird was only 15 yards. Todays bird was about 15 yards as well. We've done some long shots, but this year has been kind to us on the presentation and the lack of wind.

Correction, i have the notes from my sons shot- 45 yards, lasered.

What was the feel of having a semi un turkey hunting?

At what distance was the shot?
The turkey was about 30 yards away, she paused for a second as she was behind a bit of grass. I pulled up and shot her through the neck offhand. I've currently got a LPVO scope on it which worked great for that close distance. I only took the one shot, but I am happy I had the option for quick follow-up shots if I needed them. This is the first time I hunted turkey with any kind of rifle, so I wanted to be able to have that semi-auto action if I missed or just wounded it.
