1280 x 1024 Thermal

I was out last night at my friend's ranch trying to get some hogs and coyotes. Got skunked on both hogs and coyotoes, but there were a lot of deer. Here are a couple of videos I took of the deer. The big group playing is between 400 and 500 yards. The second group is at 30 yards. This was filmed with my hikMICRO Steller 3.0 SX60L mounted on my Ghost HP .30. The image quality makes my 640k scopes pale in comparison. When I get the hogs or coyotes in the cross hairs, I'll certainly post those videos.

@JaceSpace1369 - It is really clear live. You can shoot targets during the day and see their heat signature for zeroing your scope very easily. The LRF/BC/Reticle combinations also work very well. I have this one set at "Centered" so the shot is always in the middle versus an additional holdover reticle. You can see the dirt fly when you hit low on a target at 100 yards! Now I just need some hogs...🦔

Now I need to save up some serious money lol

I’ve an ATN Thor 5 XD LRF 3-30X.

Its ballistic calculator is useless (ATN uses a lookup-table based algorithm. Unfortunately, ATN doesn’t have entries in their tables for low BC, low speed projectiles, such as airgun pellets). When it first came out, its firmware was very unstable (the latest update seems to be very stable). The firmware updater failed, so I had to send it back and get a replacement. On and on and on. AOverall, it’s been pain in the “neck”.

Nevertheless, I’ll still go through the same problems, because its high definition is simply awesome. So much details.

At the very beginning of your long range deer, you very briefly were zoomed in. Were you focused properly when you were zoomed in? If so, or even close, it doesn't hold a candle to current 640 military clip on thermals. I'm very well aware pictures and video's never look as good as the real thing, but those deer at 16x and above were less clear than using a POT voodoo m in front of a 24x hensholdt scope, I don't own one, but a friend does and even has mid range cooled thermals. I have plenty of scope time behind 640 uncooled current military thermal clip on scopes at long range, pushed them over 40x but it is getting very bad at that magnification. If i had a spare 22k I didn't care about I'd own one.

@karl_h - I had it focused (to me eye) at the 16x. The focus on this and my others are difficult as the parallax range is extremely short compared to my glass scopes. I’ve never had the opportunity to look through a military grade thermal so I have no reference point. All the thermals I have start losing resolution at the higher magnification levels.

This scope has the best resolution of any of my consumer grade scopes and the LRF/BC combination has been spot on to 400 yards which is the furthest I’ve been able to range and shoot it. Of course the zoom is hardly usable due to it being on a PCP. I’m putting it on my 17 HMR and see how it does.

I would love a military grade scope as anything that helps me see better until I can’t see at all will prolong my shooting and hunting! Now spending that kind of money may have my wife somewhat mad at me😂

@Pfddi , If your eyes have deterioted like mine, and the focus you are talking about is the objective and not ocular, that can make the recorded pics look a bit worse than they can be. I've tried taking pics through my friend hensholdt with the voodoo in front, but it is a lost cause. I'd need a good camera, no phones and nothing short of 1500 body and primary lense camera, adjust the scope to be perfect, then mount the clip on and focus it for perfection. Taking a pic with everything focused for my eyes using a phone is pointless, the pics are horrible. I never bothered to save even one. And taking images with the clip on is pointless as it only saves what it sees, not what you see through the optical scope in back. It is fun shooting his 338 lapua at 1500 yards with him spotting and calling out the dope. first round hits with the thermal mounted are regular on the steel silhouettes even at that range. Of course if he wasn't calling out the dope looking through his spotting scope it would take me several shots to get there. He has at least 35k invested in that setup, rich people sure do have nice toys, just glad I get to play with them once in a while.
