Other 12yr old daughter...new shooter

Do you know if there is an easy way to tell the triggers apart?
Yes, the Rekord trigger has an adjuster screw behind the blade, as shown in the picture. The standard trigger lacks this feature since it’s non-adjustable, and Weihrauch has long stopped making it. So if you’re buying new, it should have a Rekord trigger.

So would we think this had the Rekord trigger even though the seller says it is an HW30?

Yep. You can see the adjustment screw just behind the trigger. Nice looking wood for a beech stocked rifle too.

Not to knock the seller, but for those second-hand prices, you’d be better off buying a brand new one—with return rights and warranty to boot. Krale’s got them for just $250 plus shipping. Yes, they’re based in the Netherlands, but they ship to the US faster than you’d think—about 2-3 days. Proper reputable too, loads of Americans order from them. Worth a look!

I have made several purchases from Krale. Great prices and fast shipping. No duties or taxes on orders under $800. No VAT either. If you get charged VAT, email them and they will refund it ASAP. They told me it was a software glitch.

I have three HW30's. The stock sights on the rifle are excellent. I was hitting cans at 30 yards with them right out of the box. I am sure a 12 year old will be hitting flies at 50 yards with them.

Everyone should have an HW30. They make great Christmas gifts, wink wink nudge nudge.

Another vote for the HW 30 / R7 platform (note - these guns have been made since the 1960's and have seen a lot of changes, so keep an eye peeled if you buy a used one).

Two desirable features for target shooting are the Rekord trigger (with solid alloy blade and weight adjuster screw as seen above; the non-adjusting Perfekt trigger has a stamped blued steel blade), and the tunnel front sight with interchangeable inserts (Krale's current listing shows this; many older ones have a fixed front blade). This insert set should come with the gun.

The HW 30 can easily mount an aperture sight, also great for target work, but HW's open sight is great as is...pic is my old R7 - note diff stock and fixed post front sight:

I took your advice and ordered from Krale. Thank you for pointing them out.

Clean the barrel and shoot if using the iron sights. Last couple HW50's I got had significant barrel droop to correct before using a scope, that is not the big deal some make it out to be. They tend to favor JSB Exact 7.3 or H+N FTT pellets. Crosman 7.9gr are cheap and availible locally, but will have some fliers. Not a big deal just starting out though.

So my HW30s is due to arrive on Monday. What do I need to do to get it ready? I have read of people cleaning the barrel before ever firing them, as an example.
It’s always a good idea to give the barrel a clean to get rid of any potential preservation gunk. Use a pull-through system with Balistol and avoid powder burner cleaning kits, metal brushes, or anything too harsh. Aside from that, have a few different types of pellets on hand to see what your rifle prefers. The HW30S often likes lighter pellets, like JSB Express or RS, but your rifle might have its own favorite diet!
