For $20 or less a few years back .... Fantastic SSP pistol.
IMO based on what ya get and how they shoot.
If there is one glaring negative, it would be getting skin, finger/s or clothing caught up when upper breech snaps shut against the lower

You only need one blood blister to learn to keep hands held flat and firm when cocking.

Clothing is a different story. I found out that zipper pulls on unzipped neck zippers should be tucked out of the way or not worn. The gun refused to unlatch so I could remove the cord. I had to point the gun off the side, to a safe area, and waste a pellet before the latch could be opened again. No harm done, fortunately.

You make cocking it look downright easy. A tin of pellets in one session! Most I’ve done was something over 100 pellets.

I bought the P3 version and use Septicdeath’s tip for cocking (he posted the video on this site): brace it off a bent knee. I standardized some details to make it even better for me, by holding the gun with four fingers holding the grip and the bottom of the barrel placed on top of my thigh just in front of the grip-to-barrel bend. It just makes for a more stable brace.

Also, because I always practice shooting right-handed and left-handed, I switch cocking sides accordingly. That makes for a good workout on both shoulders, arms, lat sides.

Yes, it requires moving up and down from kneeling to standing position. Also a good workout when done 20 or more times on each side.

I like the P3 better the more I practice with it. The trigger is everything I could have wanted, and the gun’s precision is amazing as long as *I* aim and hold accurately.

Not having tried it for shots much farther than 10 meters—eyesight is a limiting factor—I’ll make sure to do so this year.

I have been shooting air pistols pretty consistently for fourty years.
It looks easy when I play guitar too. Lol

I read so many reports how wonderful they are and I made a BIG mistake and ordered one. If there is any fun in shooting one it had better come already cocked. Or get a Missouri mule to kick cock it. Of course it might be my old age giving it to its failure to bring any pleasure. Yes, I did manage to shoot it about 20 times and then in the closet it went and will probably stay. Charles

I don't have issue shooting them as yet, but I've been shooting springer air pistols for forty years and this design SSP for about twenty of them. I had the thought that maybe its just practice/muscle memory?
I make playing guitar look easy too, and more than one of my guitar students have put their guitars in the closet, over the years.
I'm also still young. Only 68.

It's my first air gun to get myself into this air gun shooting sports. It's damn accurate even without any tuning for 10m shooting. The only down side I see is the rear sight is loose after certain amount of shooting. I then used some thread sealing tape to fixat it right after zeroing it. No need to use loctite.

I found this mod I performed makes loading easy beans with the Air Venturi pellet pen. Makes it a straight into the end of the barrel loading procedure. Make approximately a 1/2" diameter hole right at the bottom of the rear sight. ( picture #1 & 2) You will also have to relieve the shelf just behind the rear sight screw nut, (picture #3) this can be all be accomplished with a Dremel or a rat tail file.Will only take a few minutes because you are only removing plastic material. (Picture #4) shows straight in with pellet pen ------SURE MAKES LOADING A LOT EASIER

My P3's rear sight also sometimes moves, as if an invisible hand turned the screw a bit. I memorized its correct position for my usual shooting distance and check it each time I shoot. It does seem stable until after I have shot it more times in a session.

The good part is that I can use my thumbnail to dial it back to where it should be. But I think this should not happen with a $280 pistol!

The other complaint I have is that a retaining pin that secures the latch in back tends to start marching out one side, also after a certain amount of shooting. It is easy to correct by tapping a pin punch over it, using a small hammer. Again, this should not happen...

Recently I shot the P3 at a suspended string of two soup cans and one pellet tin hung vertically from a branch about 75' away. I could hear the metal being hit and see movement, but TBH I don't know which of those items it hit. They'd already been shot numerous times with a rifle before that.

I knew it had been hitting a dead tree from about 90' away, but again, though I could hear the twack I don't know how accurately it hit.

It being the season for mostly indoor shooting, the distance will swing to the other extreme. Either the pistol's front will have a bag under it, or I will shoot it using a bent knee for support under the support arm. Both ways done sitting on the floor. And a distance of only 17'.

But the gun has done very well in the past at that, many pellets in the same hole and where I aimed it.

I shoot my P17 at 50-feet regularly. Mine is accurate to that range.

If you really want to be surprised by your p17, then mount a scope to it and shoot it off a rest.

@Frank in Fairfield - That was a fair trade! I have the HW40A and the P17. It is impressive how close the P17 comes to a $200 pistol.

Here is a nice mount to go from the 13mm rail to picatinny. Will make mounting a red dot much easier!
