I think it would be really hard on the breach seal to do this.

For a wadcutter pellet at short range under 20y it can work well. And it’s definitely less likely to punch holes in metal buildings or embed into structural beams. I’m sure that not every pellet fired backward is going to be accurate enough, but worth a quick test.

That is why I did not want to use my pcp but his old break barrel.

Also, I think part of the loss of velocity is because the backward pellet does not seal in the barrel as a pellet should.

That or even more so you're shooting a big parachute at the front.........lol

I'd like to see one shot in slow motion to see if it doesn't self correct or just tumble after leaving the barrel. Anyone have some ballistics gel video of them being shot backwards? Anyone have a badminton shuttle handy that they can throw backwards to see what happens?

Lol, I've done that, accidently, with .25 JSB on the bench. No breach seal killed but sure explains the flyer, to the right in my case. Placing the pellect correctly in the single shot tray brings back the one hollers at 30 yards.

I've messed around using .177 and .22 lead roundballs. They are less accurate than a pellet. I can only imagine a pellet shot backwards will only be even less accurate than even the roundballs.

I never tried round balls from a air rifle. I did shoot it from a muzzle loader with 1:28 twist and it is surprisingly accurate at 100 meter.

Love my black powder guns. Almost as much as my pellet guns.

Not only that, but with harder pellets, the skirt could deform outwards and start grinding its way into the rifling within the bore, which could at least theoretically cause the barrel to explode, due to the really high pressures - it would cause something similar to a squib in firearms.

And yet I don't. Largely for the same reasons that I don't shoot pellets backwards.

i have tested pellet backwards several times, at close range accuracy is pretty good and they certainly make a mess of a potato but I wouldn’t bother on a live animal as there are so many better pellet options available
