Thanks. Right now every beat of my heart is a whole new adventure in pain. I hope it does heal fast. I'd like to be asleep right now, but it's throbbing so bad I just can't get comfortable. I don't really drink, but I'm sure tempted to get a good, old bottle of Jack to try and drown the pain. LOL! Just took a couple more pain pills and another sleeping pill. Maybe I'll get some sleep after a bit.

Hey, no hurry on mailing that. Whenever you get to it. Unless something changes drastically in the next day or two, I'm kind of doubting if I'm going to be in any mood to tinker with that gun.

Hope your feet are hurting less. Mailed the ball and spring two days ago. Should have it tomorrow. Regards.

Yeah, I'm doing a lot better. All the throbbing and burning has stopped. It's downright uncanny the way a guy manages to find the sore spots on his body. I've managed to stub one toe once and one other toe twice since the surgery. before that it had been years since I last stubbed a toe really hard. Karma? Fate? Maybe just inattentiveness and awkwardness. LOL!

I did manage to get shoes on and go out yesterday. I went to find the materials I need to build my trap. I turned this town upside down and can NOT find what I need. We have one lumber yard/hardware store, one hardware store, one farm service store, and a Walmart. I couldn't find any duct seal in this town. The two places I looked for rubber mulch were out. Like I said before. There are definite pros and cons in living in a small, rural area. So, I've changed how I'm going to build the trap. I'll be going an entirely different route than what I originally planned. I might even get out to the garage later today to get started on it.

I'll holler when the ball and spring get here.

I know Home Depot sells duct seal, it's about $4 a pound. They sell it here at their stores in Eastern MA. How far a trip for you to the nearest Home Depot? Glad your foot's not hurting bad.

Yep. Home Depot, Lowe's, and Menard's all handle duct seal. It's an hour to an hour and a half to any of those stores for me. We're really rural here. The entire County's population is 19,000. Most every county around us is very similar. It's farm country with a few small industries in each larger town. We actually have a few decent industries here now. By a few, I mean maybe a dozen and none of them are really big. We do have a Walmart distribution center here. The county to our northeast has a Marathon refinery. Like I said, not having a lot of places to shop is the trade off for living in a small town with nearly no felonious crimes committed. It's quiet and peaceful in this place, but I can't buy nearly anything I need or want. As you might suspect, we do have a Super Walmart in town. Try buying duct seal there. LOL!

Yeah, I knew you were remote. I make special trips up to Kittery, Maine to the Kittery Trading Post for some muzzleloading related stuff. It's the closest place to where I live (that I know off) where I can buy actual black powder. About an hour and a half north of me. They are special trips..

We do the same thing. If there is something we REALLY need or want, we'll make a special trip out of it and go shop for two or three things and then have dinner out. It's a one day mini vacation for us. LOL!

We used to make kind of regular trips to Evansville. I had to travel there to see specialists at the VA clinic there. My local clinic only does routine checkups or preliminary diagnoses which then required a trip to Evansville to see a specialist. The recent changes made to the VA healthcare system allow me to see a civilian/non-VA provider for specialty care. Guys that live in this area are loving the new system. It's about an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes from here to the clinic in Evansville, depending on traffic. This work I just had done on my toes would have required me to travel that distance, but the new system sent me to a podiatrist 20 minutes from my front door. That saves me a whole bunch of time and money since gas is back to $4.25 a gallon.

The ball and spring arrived yesterday. All I did was check to be sure the ball was there and then I put the envelope with the pile of parts and pieces I have. Not sure when I'll jump back into working on it. I had a couple of mowers show up yesterday too. I still tinker on small engine equipment for friends and neighbors. My contractor had mentioned he had a couple of mowers that needed some attention. I told him if he wasn't in any big hurry I'd get them both back into good running order. It's just something I do to occupy some time. After a quick inspection of the two, I'd say all I need to do is rebuild the carburetors, change oil, install new plugs and new air filters and fire them up.

I also bought some materials for my pellet trap. I scoured this town for different types of materials. I think I've come up with a way to build a decent trap. Might even get started on that project today. I'll try and remember to take some photos while I do the construction. At this point all I can say is that I'll be combining ideas from several different types of traps. LOL!

Glad it arrived. Regarding the small engine repair work I had a Batavus moped as my first motor vehicle in 1981 in high school. It was a 2-stroke 50cc engine, did 30 mph. Got about 3,000 miles on it then the rings failed. A small engine guy in my town offered to bore it out and fit a larger piston. Made it into an 80cc, changed a sprocket, and I had 45mph top speed. Very illegal... Regards

Yep. Those things are fun. When I had my small engine shop I built several gas powered bicycles. I used 80cc motors from BikeBerry on fat tired beach cruisers. I sold several. I had two that were my own that I used for demonstration purposes and testing of modded parts. I had one that was black all over including the rims and spokes. It was the test bed for a lot of stuff. We did a bunch of sprocket changing on it one week and took it out on a long, flat, stretch of blacktop that got very little traffic. We changed sprockets three or four times before we hit on a combination that worked for what we wanted. We were only interested in how fast we could get one rolling. Once we hit the right combination of sprockets, it required quite a bit of peddling along with the motor to get rolling. Once it was under full power of the engine and not my peddling, it ended up running between 60 and 65 mph. We couldn't get a really accurate speed reading since it was done by a car trailing me on the bike. I ran it for over a half mile at top speed and the guys in the car claimed it actually hit 65, but it's debatable. LOL! I have heard of guys doing all sorts of engine mods and sprocket changing to reach much higher speeds. I also just read recently where 4 cycle motors are taking over and the two cycles are going to fade away. I happen to have a neighbor on the next street north of me that has a 2 cycle gas powered bicycle. I see him go by quite often. I haven't stopped him to talk about it, but he sure seems to be enjoying it. If these gas prices don't stop going up I might order the parts and build another one. I can run around town pretty well on one of those.LOL!

My first vehicle was a 1967 Barracuda with a 340 in it. Kids today don't believe me when I tell them how much I paid for it. LOL!

I had a Puch 2 speed moped in the early 1980s. 150-200 mpg and 30 mph except when going downhill. Then the regulator seemed to let go and I was able to do at least 45 (verified by a passing car I asked "How fast and I going!") (grin)

Wrecked it doing 30 mph (was run off the road), dislocated my left collarbone and still have problems with my left shoulder. Then, I went from that moped to a 1976 Goldwing! Never had a problem over 66,000 miles in 2 years! (smile)

Damn! I miss that Goldwing!

In 2009 I built an e-bike before they became mainstream. 500 watt front wheel hub motor and a 54 volt, 1,000 watt-hour battery. Not fast with a 23 mph top speed but had an honest 80 mile range. I put over 20,000 miles on it in five years, still have it and am on my third battery.

Never into actual motorcycles, everyone I knew when I was younger who had one crashed their bikes and ended up in the hospital, fortunately nothing more than bad road rash and some minor fractures. No way for me. The moped was a ton of fun when I was a teen though.

I actually WAS safer on the Goldwing than I ever was on the Puch moped. The Goldwing was heavy enough to hold the road, but the Puch moped could easily slip out from under me on a curve if there was the least bit of small gravel. Anyway, I put 66,000 miles on the Goldwing over the 2 years that I owned it and never had a problem. There are some stories I could tell about close calls, but that would get too long winded about motorcycles for AGN. (grin)

The last thing I will say about riding that Goldwing for 2 years is that it taught me to be a defensive driver! Never trust the *other* driver! (smile)

I've looked at a couple of E-bikes for running around town. Maybe I'm just a tightwad, but the speed and range of what I found online didn't seem impressive when the price was factored in. I see a few of those running around locally.

What I see mostly running around town now are golf carts, quads, and side by sides. Our City Council voted to allow all of them free use of city streets. Not one of those vehicles pays for plates that end up helping fund repair and maintenance on our streets. I suggested that anyone that wished to use one of those vehicles on our streets should have to pay an annual fee for the privilege. I was told that money was tight for everyone and to require a fee might be difficult for the owners of those vehicles. I asked if anyone was aware of what a golf cart or side by side cost. I got that deer in headlights look. I just wondered how a person that could afford a rig that cost from $5,000 to as much as $45,000 could be hurt by paying an annual fee of a couple hundred dollars. Honestly, if someone had the kind of $$$ needed to buy and maintain a cart or side by side, couldn't they really afford a coupe hundred a year? It seems that several area towns and cities have voted to allow those types of vehicles to use their streets.

That's exactly why I never took to two wheels. When I was in the 8th grade I was on a bike belonging to a friend. I crashed it over the edge of a railroad trestle and down into a blackberry patch. I came out of there looking like I'd tangled with a whole pack of wildcats. LOL! I was bruised, scratched, and scuffed all over, but not seriously hurt. After that I just never had the urge to own a motorcycle. I won't ride on one with someone else either.
