Crosman 1720T field target practice

I had some free time, so I set a field target lane to practice with my new to me 1720T (courtesy of Ugly John here on AGN). I mounted my SWFA SS 12x the other day and sighted it in, so today was time to test it out. It’s very windy today 20 mph with gusts over 35 mph. Still I managed to hit a fair amount of the targets, definately mnore practice is needed before I hit shoot it in a match next spring.

I'm new to shooting a scoped PCP air pistol so am hardly qualified to speak on the subject but will share what little I think I know. A rubber eye cup on the ocular end of the scope will help keep your eye and scope aligned if you press your forehead and cheek gently against it. From what I am told a firm rubber compound is best but I could not find that so bought a cheap eye cup off Flea Bay for $8. I wear glasses and it works for me. Made a noticeable difference in acquiring and keeping the target in the field of view and accuracy. Obviously find the pellet your gun likes best. My 1720T loves 10.34 gr AA. Comfortable and stable are oxymorons! I am still finding the most comfortable shooting posture while maintaining near rifle like stability. I found that sitting on my stool at a right angle to the target with my arms crossed on my knees with the butt of the grip resting on top of my left arm just below the elbow and the end of the gun on my bipod to work best. Facing the target and holding the butt of the gun in the air is no good. Cameron Kerndt built my gun and provided me with a printed LDC that helps it be even more backyard friendly than a stock 1720T. I attached a bubble level to my gun to help me learn to hold it vertical and not cant it. I can't shoot from a bucket. Too high. Get a short 4 legged stool and cut a little off the bottom of each leg until it's the perfect height. And that's all I think I know, lol.

It was a toss up for me about the rubber eye cup because I wear glasses, but since it works for you, maybe I’ll give it a try. Right now, I’m using 8.4 grain JSB, but I really haven’t done a lot of pellet testing with it yet. My bucket is a three gallon chlorine bucket for pool maintainance. It is a perfect height to be able to rest my elbows on my knees.

I use pistol scopes on my pistols,no need to get your eye close to the pistol scope ;lBurris 7x pistol scopes on that pistol
My scope is 12x, the max limit for pistol field target. I’m sure it has a better field of view and ranging capabilities than a 7x. Also, my parallax adjusts from 10m to infinity.
As for holding my eye closer or not, it’s moot. I’m shooting hunter class with a bipod. For off hand shots, I’ll use a “taco” hold.
