My wife's RW came in 177 w a polygonal barrel and truly is amazing with every JSB. She used the 16.2s to win the 50 yd benchrest at EBR in 2018, I believe. It is VERY competitive up to about 75 yds. The 16.2s seem to get unstable after that and I pushed it higher and higher till it seemed to hold together as much as possible at 100... right at 1000 fps. Ater a LOT of effort, finally had to accept defeat on this one and we went up to 22 cal so we could still compete in the OneGun Challenge. What I've seen with the LabRadar is that it's marginally stable and small gusts of wind can upset it and then get a big flier.
What I've also experienced since that time is that the 10.3s and 13.4 mrd's stay stable to WAY past 100 yds but the bc is so low that small gusts move them quite a bit... therefore SERIOUSLY more difficult to compensate for the wind and keep your shots in. The 13.4 mrd's are pretty impressive though.
As you say, the 177s are a ton of fun, just not going to be competitive with the 22/25.4s, 25/33.4s, or 30s or even the 20/15.89s.
I was working on a Steyr LG100 a while back... just 12 ft lb and it shot SO incredible in the mild conditions that day that I decided to throw a few at 100.
The first 3 are stacked on the right and I could barely feel a change so held a little for the 4th but not enough, and just a tiny bit more change on the 5th so I was holding about 2 inches on it but blew it further. Notice the vertical . This was 8.4s at 800...
Soo... the little 177s can shoot 100 yds... yes... but can they compete w the big boys?... probably not at that range... Still a hoot though...
