.177 Crown Tact Compact-ish (tube version)

.177 Crown Tact Compact-ish (tube version) with 500mm .177 barrel.

7 lbs 10 ounces scoped(as pictured):

At approx. 29" folded, would you still consider this to be a "compact"?:

I used the same TP and HS knob settings as I did with the 380mm .22 barrel and came out with these-

Shooting JSB 8.44g @ 720 fps yields 88 shots( but most of the last mag of 22shots was off the reg). This is only about 9 fpe, so I shot this target at only 25 yards:

I decided to find the TP and HS knob settings to find the one that more closely approximated 12 fpe and came up with this one and shoot a target at 30 yards(as in previous thread using 380mm .22).

Shooting JSB 8.44g @ 805 yields 88 shots and once again most of the last mag is off the reg. Seemed to still shoot ok, tho:

The wind seemed to be gusting a bit more when I shot this KO string, so the groups could definitely be tighter, subsequent 50, 75, and 100 yard groups have demonstrated. The .177 KOs have been consistent about the 75 yard(or 100 yard) groups not being much worse that the 50 yard groups. Shooting JSB KnockOut 13.43g slugs @ 901 fps yields 35 shots before POI starts dropping:

If anyone knows of a 380mm .177 liner or any length .177 liner(I can cut them down to 380mm and re-crown) for sale, please let me know. I'd like to experiment on a TRUE .177 compact.

Love it. I dont feel like this is terribly compact. But a lot more compact than my Walnut stocked crown for sure! Haha. 

Compact for me is something more the size of a pistol. Like 15" or so with stock folded/detached/retracted. But there will be a tradeoff of shot count, noise, and power. Probably why I have 6 pcps and want more haha. All of them having parts capable of being configured in compact or semi compact formats.

sadly they FX doesn’t sell 177/22 liner in 380mm, wish they did. They only sell 300mm liner in a 380mm shroud, not sure why not just standardize on 380mm liners. Oh well. 

If you want a 300mm superlite Dreamline 177 barrel then try reach out to @tdhouser1964, he might have one. I highly recommend getting one if you can, I absolutely love my crown with the “380mm” barrel.

Thanks guys! Yeah, it's kind of a "tweener" isn't it. Kinda need a moderator on the end to quiet down the higher fps shooting too, which really puts it into the "full-size" length for sure.

qball, thanks for the tip on the 300mm barrel. I may look into that if I can't find a longer .177 liner to chop down(I've had good luck with that, btw, especially the old non-superior liners) to 380mm.

This afternoon, I had a chance to do some 100 yard shooting with my other Crowns to check and make sure they were still shooting well. I decided to throw this little guy in the mix and he did pretty well with the KOs:

WHOA!!! Your little 380mm barrel out shot the 700mm barrel at 100? Nice shooting on all of them!


I just MIGHT buy a 500mm liner and give it a chop……..it’s only money right?

It did today. That MK1 synthetic stock with 380mm and a Vector Continental 3-18x50 FFP is my go-to "big" hunting/pesting rig(until I find something more reliable). It has held it's tune and been dead on every time I pull the trigger(got the scope marked from 30 to 250 yards) for over 1 and a half now. Taken countless crows, squirrels, pigeons, doves, grackles, and sparrows. Even 3 possums, an armadillo, and a skunk. That gun is the reason why I ended up buying another Crown(so I'd have something to plink and experiment with). I'll probably never change it. But when the wind gets up over 5mph, those 21g slugs @ only 870 fps get blown around and group opens up pretty good. The faster(heavier, better BC) KOs and MRDs buck the wind better and are able to shoot about the same size groups(better for BR/competition shooting) in the higher winds(to a point).

I put a DonnyFL Shogun on it, so it's stupid quiet. But if I need more maneuverability, a Tatsu will do fine;-)
