Tuning .177 Daystate Pulsar FT tune

Finished tuning my .177 DS Pulsar with HeliBoard yesterday. Tuned to shoot 13.4 grain JSB RD Monsters at 815 FPS which is just under 20 FPE. I bought this gun on sale at AoA for shooting Field Target in 2021 Hunter Class.

The results are amazing. For a 90 shot string from 250 to 160 bar, my muzzle velocity was 811 to 819 FPS for an ES of 8 FPS. That’s with pellets straight from the tin. I’m done tuning, it just doesn’t get much better than that.

Two magazines, 28 shots at 50 yards in 10 mph wind from my 10:30 in prone position with bipod.

Wow! That is the setting that I found I liked shooting the most when I had one. At that speed with that pellet, it liked a light hold and was a very good shooter (close to the equal of the 16gr on high). I never had any long, super/duper consistent strings like that, especially with a full fill, with the factory tune. That is awesome to hear!! That Helliboard tune at that speed must have been perfected really well across the tank pressure range. It seemed like the Helliboard was more consistent for long strings in the Red Wolf too, but didn’t try one in a Pulsar.

Yes, it took much time and many hundred of pellets to get it that way, especially since the setpoints on either side of the selected setpoint (out of 20) cross affect each other to an extent. Its best to do it while shooting as you increase the pressure each ten bar or so to each setpoint. The gun won't shoot that much FPE consistently at under about 155 bar. I currently have it on level 5, but the voltage is raised from 69 to 70.5 volts. The gun will shoot accurately the JSB 10.3s at about 910 FPS, but they are much more susceptible to the wind than the 13.4 RD Monsters. There is a SIGNIFICANT difference at 55 yards.

very nice !!

Getting stable with a SHORT bullpup on a bucket / stool & sticks is a whole lot tougher than with a LONG GUN.

Practice and experimenting with TECHNIQUE will pay huge dividends should you stick with shooting a Pup in hunter class FT !!!

Scott

Thanks Scott. I've been practicing with it, and its not significantly different than the FX Crown that I used this past year as far as ease of shooting, plus its much easier to shoot off hand than a longer rifle. I've looked at the "pretzel" position in Hunter FT like you use, but either I can't figure it out, or I'm not flexible enough... ;)

Don’t remember which division, but in one of the latest FT results threads, someone did really well with a Pulsar. It may have been the top score of the day, or at least one of them. I remember being really surprised.

Will be watching to see how this continues. The Pulsar wasn’t a good fit for me, but it definitely has accuracy potential like it’s big brother.

Flexible ....

It is the Other Scott ... Mr. Hull who is Pretzel Man all balled up in the deadman position shooting his Daina Skyhawk.

Oh, yeah, I know what you mean. Doesn't Cam shoot like that also? I was talking the Hunter Class position where you sit sideways to the target, and rest the gun across your lap, and lower your head to your knee to look through the scope... Would that be the "semi-pretzel" position? Or maybe the Hunter bucket and sticks Pretzel? ;)

A third Scott (not Hull or Motorhead) is usually at or near the top of the leader board of Open class in our monthly Airgunnerss of Arizona matches, using his Pulsar.

Indeed Cameron K has the bones and physic of a jellyfish able to get into that most awkward position ... Lol

Having myself recently acquired a TAIPAN standard in .177 and setting it up over the past month or so as a > 20 fpe FT rig, I'm excited to screw around and see if i can still hang with Scott H as i had in 2020 shooting my JSAR. These past few years I'm shooting for FUN of the game and not taking myself or the game to seriously.

Bigger wheel on it ... but this little sweetie in 2021 for starters ...
