.177 for 8 year old to learn and take to competetions?

An Hw30 would make a great rifle for a new shooter. It’s light, has mild power (about 7fpe), is very accurate and has a terrific trigger. The sights are nice but I think the addition of a Williams rear aperture sight is a great idea. That’s how mine is set up and I love it. The little rifle also just begs for a little 3-9 power scope if you want to go that way. The length of pull is on the short side but does fit me well so I’m not sure how well it will fit an 8 year old. That would be my only concern.
Your wrong about the length of pull. The Hw30 has a 14" LOP. It's actually longer than most centerfire rifles sold and longer than almost all rimfire rifles sold.

The Hw30s are small in overall length and light and only feel like they have a small LOP. Part of the long 14" LOP is the abnormally long reach to the trigger from the pistol grip. Many grown men have a hard time getting their finger comfortably on the trigger. There's an entire market of set back triggers for that reason.

Nobody loves their Hw30s more than I do. I own three and have tuned dozens. This is not the right rifle for an eight year old unless you install a set back trigger and cut the stock.

Just because it feels small to a man doesn't mean it fits a child.

Sorry. I had to set the facts straight. This nonsense about a small LOP on the Hw30s has already gone on too long. I'm 6'4 250 with a very long reach and the 30 fits me fine.

You really need to hook up with members in your 4h who compeat and know for sure what gun is allowed. In her age class or discipline it could be a rough fle thats under 500 fps . That daisy recomended is pretty standard legal youth used rifle. Also may need to register... ( From a Alabama 4h rules)

All competitors must have a CMP competitor number. Register for a number at no cost at the CMP website: http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/CreateACMPNumber.pd

The people i linked the daisy here ..
They should have a pfd on the full monty of the rules as well.

No point buying a hw or tx200 or whatever air gun and find it dont qualify then you looking for another gun.

I think so thats the only wood i found but referbed.. ( no big deal on them i think)
. Shes 8 no point going too fast too adult . Start with the basic daisy match gun give her a year of basic target matches with it and let her grow into the next best.. heck adults still shoot that daisy . Anyway go too big too gast she may turn sour and want to give it up ..

Well I'll be damned. Measured mine and sure enough it's 14". It sure feels smaller.

Edit: Its the thinner grip I think that makes it feel smaller.

Saddly discontinued and out of stock..

They have the "S" synthetic stock.

But if a guy can get the wood referb cheap enugh and maybe drop the synthetic stock receiver part in the wood down the road ? Then have the newer gun in good ol wood again
