N/A .177 for slugs (primarily at least)?!

I have some what a confidence the new Daystate Superpowerultraspeedsuperblackwolf will handle 22-24grain ZAN slugs close to the 40 ft/ibs. A few airguns do already the power but lacks the abillity to stabilize heavy slugs at long range. No need to have a powerful .177 and shoot 13grainish leaddust.
I mean, if it's coming with a barrel that has at least a 14.6" twist then yeah it'll shoot those atleast somewhat effectively. Otherwise it doesn't matter it if can out 50fpe if it won't put them on target

As my JSAR is set up currently at @ 35 FPE if you accidentally shoot a 10.3 g pellet or light slug it is absolutely supersonic and LOUD !!!
Longer barrels help get the speed up as does a high power valve design.
Leaned on in .177 it can muster @ 40 fpe and it's no joke set as such !!! Just an air hog :(
Hahaha I can imagine :) I think the goal is to be 25-30fpe max with this one…

Then a quarter turn should be all you need, and then maybe some minor adjustments on the valve.
You gotta educate me as to valve adjustment on the U2, what would you expect if have to do?

Separately, do you guys lube your .177 slugs?! I always lube and did so with these baby slugs a a well but shot a few out of the tin just to compare and based on the very limited sample it seems like they don’t like to be lubed?!

I make sure to lube my slugs in .22 and clean the barrel with wet patches or use the ballistol snake to leave a small film of lube on the barrel.

Did you clean the barrel to begin with?

It may just not like lubed slugs, are your slugs soaked with lube? Or do they just have a tiny layer? The only .177 slugs I've ever lubed are NSA and Zans because they dry out quick. But not the JSB KO, Griffins, or VK.

Also you'll eratic fps spreads. Like of you have decent accuracy but your spreads are over 15fps. Something like 905, 920, 912, 928, 907, 920, 899.

You definitely need to fine tune your valve. I wouldn't do any crazy turns.

My .22 was doing what I metioned above but from 990-1016 I did maybe about 1/5 of a turn out and it tightened my speed considerably and accuracy was retained.

Yeah barrel got cleaned properly before the first shot :)

Not soaked in lube, I have a box with shop towels sprayed with silicone, I just roll the slugs in there and then leave them out for a bit to dry. Wasn’t patient enough with the .177 if I’m honest and loaded them wet though :) let’s see how they do dry tomorrow.

Spread doesn’t look bad for out of the box but the pocket chrony (v2) is missing a ton of shots, not sure what to do about that…

But will lol into valve adjustment on the U2 (and pester you if I can’t figure it out :))

You'll have to adjust the chrony sensitivity for .177, chronys have a harder time clocking them. But that's not terrible, it can definitely be cleaned up though. This was with 10gr right?

Pulled the reg to adjust, cam set to 90b. Gave it only 1/8 turn cause I didn’t want to make the 10gr supersonic given that I got 8 tins :) anyway, I think I got lucky, 10gr now at 1070 and the 16gr at 925 :) spread looks good as well. Couple of 5 shot groups in the pic, upper 3 are the 10gr but ignore the two to the left, cleaned barrel after those since I probably shot 3-400 since last cleaning. The lower ones are with 16gr. Only at 15y though (17mph wind with 32mph gusts right now, so I’m not even going to bother outside…)…

Wow! Good to know that only 90b shoots the 10gr at that speed. With an 1/8th of a turn you should be around 100-105b. Are those the 16gr VK? Or something else? And if so what size did you order from him.

Yeah!!! I didn’t have a reg tester but the 90 was written on the reg with a sharpy. The 16gr are HN HP! Got some NSA .178 coming based on your recommendation as well, but I like both the mk iii and the H&N so far :) let’s see how they do at 50y and beyond… gotta wait for the stupid wind to calm down though.

Austin know that they twist rate for those barrels are 17.7 so the NSA should work perfectly. You'll just have to stamp the hollow point of the nielsens with a Phillips head to get any expansion lol.

Oh wow! That’s good to know and a neat trick :) I guess I’d use the HN for critters then, their .22 and .25 brethren expand nicely, so hopefully the .177 will, too! But yeah, I guess I’m not going to sell/trade the .177 to you, sorry :)

Trigger was creeping crazy out of the box though, checked the sear and was engagement on almost 1/8 or so :) adjusted and now the trigger is nice and crisp. Other than that it’s pretty much perfect, except for a tiny ping. Not bad but if it can be eliminated completely I’d not be unhappy about it. Know a good source for depinger?! Otherwise I’ll DIY something and hope for the best…

They actually already have depingers in them. Double check to make sure yours is not a twenty twenty two model, which is the early model that came out, without depingers. But no, if you remove the stock and look at the area where the hammer spring is, and the hammer weight you'll notice that you can clearly see it lol. I believe Sub12Airgunner made something custom for his U2 to combat the ping, aside from a depinger.

I will just buy my own like I should have done from the get go instead of ordering the V3 lol.

Serial is starting with 23, which should be year of production. Will check anyway :) yeah he made a peek hammer in addition, gonna see what can be done :)

Go for it, never thought that I’d like a .177, let alone this much :)
I love my 177 rifles. They've always been for the vast majority, really good shooters. It would be amazing if he could sell the stuff he makes.
