N/A .177 for slugs (primarily at least)?!

Sorry… late to the .177 slug slinger party.

I recently took an old Snowpeak P12 that was .177 and made a carbon fiber wrapped FX liner barrel for it out of a 700mm liner..
That thing is unregulated and slinging 20 grain ZANs a bit over 900fps.
I’ve never cared much for .177 myself but this little creation of mine has been really impressive and is quickly becoming my favorite!
Wind doesn’t seem to have much effect on these ice picks at all.
And it smacks with authority even at 100yds!
It’s sighted in about 2inches high at 30yds, which makes it dead on at 60 and only one mil-dot hold over at 100 with my scope on 7 power.
It’d probably shoot 1.5” groups at 100yd, I’ll have to find out some day.

Beautiful! How's it shooting at 30 and 60yds?

Well… I’m impressed how. Today was calm-ish, 3-4mph on and off wind so I shoot a few to 45 and 70yards. Just for the avoidance of doubt, the ones where I am holding the coin are 5 shot groups at 45 (didn’t pull the target since there are still some clean ones on it), to ones just on lying on the floor are at 70yards (one of which I got lucky I guess, 4 went in the same hole!). Really nice when the wind is either constant or absent but if it changes direction you can immediately tell since it’ll pull the tiny slugs and inch or more over at 70. Was tempted to go t 100 but we got snow last night and was to lazy to put the target up :)

Hey that's great! I'm sure it could tighten up with some tuning but that's great so far!

For sure! bumped the reg that one time, other than nothing. also still the HN slugs, the mk iii at Erik loud at 1075 when getting out of the window and passing stuff on their way :) am still not sure how it likes to be held though, still trying different holds… but very happy so far!

All this is making upset my M4 .177 reg or whatever wrong with it wont perform for me!! But if that baby gets fixed its on gentlemen!!View attachment 537348
If you're that upset with it I'll trade you, my 177 Akela for it, it likes shooting slugs even at 5fpe 😉 the more expanded slug is at 7fpe.

All jokes aside I do hope it gets fixed, or that they do right by you. I'm supposed to be getting the V3 .177 I originally ordered nearly a month ago tomorrow so we'll see what it doing this week!
Edit: put the correct picture of shot string

Mine likes to be held tight, and weighted down.

U2 .22 700mm putting 56fpe 25gr 1007fps 30gr 918fps.
Interesting! There were a couple that went quite well when I was holding it tight! Went back to a happy medium after that, some shoulder into it but not too much, also ok. But letting it’s butt slide freely is definitely not a good.

Yeah, it's definitely a bit jumpy. The front end is super light compared to the back of it depending on what stock you have and where you have the scope centered.

Reach out to Utah, they’ll send you valve rod and house plus o rings, should fix it. Or send it in, all people that did seem to be very happy with the way they fix it. I’m guessing a bad batch of valve rods and/or orings made it out the door at FX (surprise surprise…).

CF :) scope sits somewhat to the back but only temporary anyway. EPL 4 for it is on the way, right now discovery HT on it. BTW tried a bunch of discover based on the discussion in the headshot thread the other day… only keeping the one HT as a cheap 4-16 backup, all the other ones are going back… parallax way of, turrets so so… glass wasn’t bad though. But then, recently had to send back a helos cause its windage turret was grinding for 1/4 of the turn…

That's wild! The Arken Sh4 4-16x50 paired with the discovery one piece mounts is perfect. It also has 20moa built into it.

You could go lower, but not too low, IMHO anyway.

Nice! Will give it a try! Yeah I’m not a “let’s put the scope as low as possible” guy… comfortable shooting position is always the best way to mount a scope!

Yup! This one seems to be about 95% but everytime I put my cheeks I'm right there and the balance if more aft. This is an older picture, it now sits 2-3 slot back. I had put this scope set up on my V3 .30 and it was entirely TOO tall. Had to damn near put my bottom lip on the cheek rest.

To tall is more annoying to me than too low… but crazy how different the needed height can be on seemingly similar guns…

Off topic: chiefs getting smoked so far, not sad about it :)
Yeah it certainly was, didn't matter if I was sitting, prone, offhand it sucked lol. Btw I fixed the screenshot of the shot string from 4 or 5 comments ago
