HW/Weihrauch 177 Hw95 @50

I shot my 177 Hw95 this morning before the wind and rain get here. Here's the whole page. Ignore the top six. They're are 22LR.

IF only targets 2, 3 & 4 didn't have one straggler. But that's how unsorted pellets from a random tin go. Oh well. I'm still pretty happy with these. Btw the stragglers weren't fifth shot chokes.

This gun will best my 97 with the right tin of pellets. Just shows that break barrels can be very accurate.

Nice shooting,!

Thanks for sharing, nice shooting. I get similar results with my HW30, but what pellets do you find most consistent with the 95? I‘m seriously thinking of buying a .177 95 and would like to know if I can get better 50 yd accuracy than my HW30. Would you mind sharing 50 yd results with your guns favourite pellets? what scope do you use?

JSB Exact 8.44 or the FX & AA clones have provided my all time best groups. They vary tin to tin in results. The most consistently accurately pellets are 4.52 FTTs. That's pretty much across the boards with my 177 Weihrauchs. A good tin of JSBs will out perform the FTTs. The challenge is getting that good tin.. The FTTs are very close in accuracy and way more consistent. I have no problem buying 20 tins of FTTs at a time. I won't buy more than 10 tins of JSBs. There's nothing worse than getting 20 tins from a so so lot of JSBs that only a few guns shoot well. Ordering ten tins at a time limits my chances of that.

To be honest I'm very happy with any pellet rifle that consistently shoots quarter sized (2 MOA) groups at 50 yards. Im ecstatic when I get dime sized (near 1 MOA) groups at 50 yards. Others may do better but these are my personal standards.

Thanks for the quick response and encouraging information as well as the pellet details and advice! I have access to a 25, 50 and 100 yard range. I shoot just about exclusively at 50 and never tried 100 with the hW30 but have you ever tried targets at 100 yds?

Is a pic of the gun handy?

I've shot my scoped 177 Hw30 at plinking style targets at 100 yards. Things like beer cans and this rabbit spinner. The rabbit spinner was set at 108 yards. In calm or steady conditions I have no problem hitting them repeatedly once I'm dialed in. I went 15 hits in a row on a 4" junction box cover at 102 yards at a friend's house. I quit at 15 because I wanted to go out on a high note. The friend is a member here and will vouch for me. That was with my scoped Hw30 and JSB 8.44s. I usually won't shoot groups with it past 30 yards. Light pellets and long flight times require dead calm conditions and more sense of humor than I have.

Just about all my springers have been stretched out to 100 yards or more. However I don't shoot groups past 50 yards for the same reason as above. Ironically my 177 guns still give me my best groups at 50. Funny because I have a 20 cal R9 and Hw98 and a 22 HW95 and R1. They all have their days and and occasionally produce an excellent group (like third one accidentally pictured above) but my 177 Hw95 and 97 are king at 50 yards. Those 177s run between 840 and 890fps and the 20s and 22s run between 650 and 730fps. Maybe the shorter flight time or barrel dwell of the 177 does me better than the slower bigger calibers. Who knows?

Here's my porch range. The first empty pin with the spinners on the ground is 25 yards, second with a board is 50 yards next to it is a white pill bottle hung from the tree. Barely visible on the right side of a tree is a 4" round plate at 93 yards.

Not handy, but not hard to take either, so here it is. It was my very first Weihrauch. It was a 2015 AOA $299 special. That was all I could afford at the time. I've since added the Luxus stock. I like that stock a lot better than the base model stock that came on it.
I hope this information is helpful in some way.

Be well all,
Ron

Nice range. Great shooting!
How does the 95 compare to the 97 in power?

They have nearly the same potential but I cut the power a tad in the 97. They're still not too far apart. The 97 is about 14.2-14.5 fpe IIRC and the 95 around 14.7-14.9 fpe. They both vary a little day to day due to environmental conditions and tin to tin. That's with JSB made 8.44 pellets. They both lose at least a pound of energy with FTTs or more with heavy pellets.

The 97 is easier to shoot accurately because it's a tank. The 95 is just as accurate but needs more concentration for the same results. I still prefer the 95 over the 97. It's plenty accurate horsing around, lighter and much easier to cock and load. The 97 has been up for sale time to time the 95 will never be. Here's the 97.
