Huben 1st 2 shots with new Huben .177 GK1 V3

Just got it today and tried only 2 shots.

10.65 H&N 795 fps
7.4 Crosman 896 fps

Un-moderated the gun is way too loud to shoot too many times in my backyard. Anyone hearing it would think it was a real gunshot! If I shot a quick semi-auto string it surely would raise unwanted attention. Stock settings the GK1 is more powerful (and loud) than my .177 Vixen with a much longer barrel.

Next step 3d printing some moderators to tame the beast!

@BlackICE You didn't anticipate that loud crack? I shot mine in .25 last night to deter nuisance animals my dogs alerted me to. It almost sounded l was shooting a .25 ACP as the area was virtually still at the time I opened up. Can you let us know how it sounds without a moderator after turning the power screw down significantly? Do you know which velocities you were shooting at?

Velocities were cited in the post. Working on the moderator now. Printing only the threaded portion so that I can determine the right clocking. Then hopefully only one more test rotating the threaded section so that the mod tight while it is correctly aligned with the air tube. The whole mod takes too long to print being unsure of the correct fit.

It would be wonderful to keep the same FPS while being only mouse fart loud, but I doubt that will be the case and I will have to tune it downwards.

@BlackICE I see I overlooked the velocities. Thanks for pointing them out again. With the larger caliber and a Donny moderator I can shoot comfortably without hearing protection while target shooting. From what I've read about other's experiences using printed mods, I think you should be able to achieve some serious sound dampening from a moderator designed for the gun. With a good moderator, you shouldn't have to sacrifice much velocity, if any. Then again I don't know which sound level is absolutely necessary for you. Please keep us posted.

I printed a moderator. Without modifying the tune it is plenty quiet now, the impact is much louder than the puff of air coming out of the moderator. Now refinement to make the moderator smaller and lighter while still being effective enough.

@BlackICE Quiet enough to shoot in your backyard without alerting or alarming anyone?

Yes, but the neighbor's dog started barking. I think it was from shooting the soda can rather than the noise from the muzzle. If I was shooting into clay, or mulch it probably be OK

When I shoot a pellet into the air I don't hear anything that sounds like a gunshot more like a woosh of air. I'm not a great shot but after I adjusted the sightes braced from 12 yards I got about 1 inch 5 shot groups. I think I need a red dot for my old eyes. It shoots very well smooth trigger is very nice for a semi-auto. It functions way better than any of my powder burner pistols as far as smoothness and Trigger.
