Got in the Fenix USC from Jon everything looked good fired 2 shots and moved cross hairs to impact shooting crossman de hollow points for breaking all groups were at 20 & 40 yards as marked. Gun seems very cheek and angle sensitive will get use to it ! The limb saver but pad will be going on it being a gas ram it does not a little after 30 shots or so. Pic 1 sighting pic 2 group pic 3 group all at 20 yards by laser ranger finder last pic 40 yard group. Need a lot of practice!

What scope? And is it the gas ram or spring? Pics of rifle would be nice but these groups look promising.
Will get some rifle pics later today scope is a UTG 4x16 30 mm tube have to get a step stop pin made today to set rear mount in receiver groups were shot of of a single front v bag off of my brick porch post no rear support. When the barrel runs in and everything settles I'll put it on my real bench groups should drop 30-40% in size and I'll run several pellets through it.

Mine likes the Crosmans too. Your groups look great and they will tighten up as things break in.

The limbsaver is a great idea. It makes the rifle much easier to shoot.

The rifles jump forward a lot. Off your shoulder and into your offhand. I pull into my shoulder a bit with my offhand and relax my trigger hand. It makes the gun cycle straight back and forth (with the help of the squishy pad) and reduces the group size a lot. Remember that offhand tension when mounting the rifle and it drops them in the same spot every time.

Shooting off a bag or bench rest is iffy IMHO. The gun can only jump "up" and I find my groups open up a bit and hit 1"+ higher than when the gun is held.

My best and most consistent groups are holding the rifle while sitting with my elbows on my knees. It eliminates any recoil movement and greatly improves your pattern and consistency. The POI is the same as offhand or kneeling. When the rifle is zeroed off a bag or rest it always hits 1"+ lower when shooting in a natural position.

Those recoil pin holes are tiny. I considered making a pin but thought it might shear it off. And it's going to be difficult to get the offset. Most mounts aren't going to center exactly over the holes. I think the hole in the tube should be drilled out large enough for a standard pin. When I take mine apart that's what will happen.

I mounted a 40mm scope with medium Sportsmatch rings without a recoil pin and it walked back in 100 shots. The 34mm scope on low rings held just fine for 1000 shots. A smaller scope on low rings has less inertia and seems to hold much better. If I mount a scope on it again it will be a light 32mm on low mounts.

I shoot mine mostly open sights. I think as hard as it kicks forward a scope will always be trouble without a fat hole in the receiver that will accept a recoil pin.

Do you know what the rings were torqued to on the dovetail? Sportsmatch says torque to like 50in/lbs, I've never had one move.

I don't use a torqueometer.

The SM rings are the boss. I could have torqed them a lot tighter and they would have held much better. I have them on all my guns and never a slip or twist.

This Cometa is a different beast. The gas ram moves with the piston (I think). Lots of forward inertia. WAY more than any spring gun I own. It's smooth. It's quick. But it kicks forward hard. It's going to be difficult to mount a scope long term without a recoil pin. Otherwise it's going to be a recurring problem.

I suspect it will scramble a scope pretty quickly too. Just a hunch.

I like shooting open sights so getting a scope to stick isn't a real concern on this rifle. Sooner or later I'm going to have to replace a piston seal at which time I can enlarge the recoil pin hole. If I need to mount a scope it will be small and low and closely monitored for slippage.

Got the step pin made it has .005 taper on end to allow for tap fit and lock up, I will depth check it to make sure it doesn't go into internals. When I eventually pull gun down I'll match drill and ream locations for both bases. I was impressed yesterday I put 2 shots a 1/2" apart at 50 yards just leaning on shop door in the end of a PC.
of firewood. I stopped didn't wanna blow the 3rd shot.
