I have stalked several hours off and on all day today for chippers. Yesterday I saw one, but before I could get set up, my neighbor walked by using his string trimmer and scared it off. I guess all the activity from the neighbors, Memorial Day weekend, has kept them away today.
Oh well...
At 5:45pm this afternoon I was just about to hang it up when I spotted something scampering among the doves feeding on the chicken scratch. Yep, it was a mouse/rat. But wait, right behind the first one comes a second from behind my metal shed!
Popped the first one, DRT, even though it moved just as I shot and as you will see in the pic, the entry wound is not perfect, but then again, DRT and no movement. No exit.
The second one ran behind the metal shed. I resisted the urge to go out and take pics/collect the first one hoping the second one would come back out. I didn't have to wait long. After about 3 or 4 minutes, here comes the second one to check on its buddy. Popped it in the head at 19 yards. DRT with some minor twitching. Pics show the exit wound on the pass through on that one.
First shot 18 yards and second 19 yards with my .177 Benjamin Fortitude Gen2 using CPUM 10.5 @ ~755fps for ~12-13fpe.
First pic is entry on the first one I shot, no exit. Second and third pic's are entry and exit wounds respectively on the second one.
Stogies were cheap ones. A Don Augusto Maduro Churchill and a Mark Twain No. 1 Churchill. I may celebrate with a good one and some Bourbon later tonight! (grin)
