20 MOA Scope Mounts?

I've been shooting powder burners for years, but the recent shortages on firearms, ammunition, and components have dampened my shooting and has forced me to conserve on consumables. Over the last week I've dived in head-first into airguns, and got on the pre-order list for an EDGun Leshiy 2 long in .25cal. (I've been thinking about a PCP airgun for a while, but when I saw the Leshiy 2, I knew that was it) I also placed an order for a Hawk AirMax 4-16x FFP scope.

So next on the list is a scope mount - when I configured my PB rifles I've never considered shooting beyond 500~600 yards with either my .308 or .223 rifles, so I've always went with 0MOA mounts. I'm picking up bits and pieces from the comments here that airguns have an even more pronounced rainbow trajectory, so does this mean I should be considering a 20MOA mount? Although I plan to do some hunting with it, I don't anticipate my personal maximum ethical kill range to be beyond 50 yards - it'll most likely be 25-30 yards, if that. I do contemplate the possibility of 100 yard shots, but that would only be on paper or steel. Again, I think the reality here is that it'll be much shorter than that.

After I had already placed the order for the Hawk Airmax, I came across this well-written post on the difference between PB and AG scopes: Choosing an AIRGUN Scope vs. POWDER BURNER Scope — 🤔 What's the Difference?!? - Airgun Nation It looks like I made the correct choices in prioririzing short distance parallax adjustments and having good holdoff reticles, rather than trying to press a PB scope into AG service.

Thanks ahead of time for any guidance!

To the original question, you likely don’t need a 20 MoA rail for shooting at typical airgun distances inside of 100 yards. At the same time, it certainly won’t hurt to have it. It will allow your scope’s erector tube to remain closer to its center which will leave you more adjustment range in the turrets should you ever wish to re-zero at some long distance.

For the shooting you described, it’s completely optional short of the gun having some abnormal misalignment (excessive droop).

@samsdx Just in case you weren't aware, the Leshiy 2 already has a 30 MOA incline on the scope rail so you should be good on 0 MOA scope mounts. On the box and in the manual, it states .5° rail incline which equals 30 MOA when converted.

I wasn't aware of that, so much thanks for pointing that out (I should have looked at the specs in closer detail). Looks like I'll be all set with a 0 MOA mount. Because the Hawke comes with a ballastic reticle, I hadn't planned on using the turrets to adjust elevation while shooting. Nevertheless, it's good to know that the gun itself comes with the incline for a wider mechanical adjustment range where it matters.

You're welcome. You're gonna love your L2 when you get it. I haven't been able to put mine down since I got it.

Be aware there have been reports of FX No Limits scope ring breakage and unexplained mounting issue fails lately. Feel free to search AGN for recent first hand user's info. I have not experienced any FX Ring failures yet knock on wood but I haven't bought FX No Limits since switching to Eagle Vision and Burris Signature XTR rings over a year ago so my FX rings are older.

@qball , did you ever try Burris XTR rings? I'm not a fun of other adjustable mounts (no offense guys they just don't work for me)

I highly recommend them, they may not fit every application but in my book they are top notch.

I was tempted to try them but I have not because I have too many set of rings already and decided to go to 1 piece mount where ever I can moving forward.
