200 yards with an Air rifle??

When the wind conditions are just perfect I have done some fun shooting at 200 yards. But I would not say “ reliably”. I would never consider taking a hunting shot at that range. When the wind is very calm I can place all my shots on an old circular saw blade that I use as a gong. It makes a wonderful “ping” sound that is easily heard. That is shooting with a .22 Impact or Crown and shooting NSA slugs. If the wind comes up much at all then all bets are off.

The distance is subjective and depends on what your needs are, what you want to accomplish. How big are your targets?

For several years now, a few of us get together late spring and go prairie dog hunting for 7-10 days. Up through the 2020 season,175 yards was a 3 out of 10 kill. 200 wasn’t realistic and just pure luck. In early spring 2021 we all bought RTI Prophet Plus in .22 shooting the JSB MRD. Late spring 2021was very fruitful. We now are confident and able to take shots to 200 yards on dogs with noticeable success.

Now that said, a LOT of range testing and practice went into this. I personally used four tin (800 rounds) on just determining the best hold overs. Believe me, a lot of work and effort and research went into this.
The RTI PP in .22 with its’ slow twist rate barrel and the BC of the MRD made for a perfect marriage in what we set out to accomplish.

FX M3 .25 700 here and like Kgphotos, when there is almost no wind it's not a problem hitting a gong at 200 yards. I normally use FX 25.4 pellets and the gong measures 16"x16". With no wind every pellet hits the gong (I also like hades Diablo pellets but at 200 yards very few hit the gong. NSA slugs also have no issues making some noise). I've never attempted to see if I can get a group and I wouldn't attempt a kill shot at this range.

It's no problem Andy.

Helps if you have a scope with plenty of elevation travel, and/or you can use adjustable rings or base, or angled base such as the common 20 moa bases.

Pick the size of target that is appropriate to the precision your gun is achieving(start out big), use white painted steel or shoot and see paper targets, and use a background behind the target so you can locate where each miss goes so you will know where to compensate to make a centered hit.

Let the lead fly.

Not in a AF but my swaged projectiles are only going 788 fps and 200Y is easy in normal winds.

While I wouldn’t make any crazy claims. And I’m not going to say I could do it again.

but I put down three shots at 200y a week ago with my 25cal raw. All three landed inside 2.5” jsb king heavy

As many have mentioned what exactly do you mean reliably and what size is the target. The environmental conditions and the BC of projectiles makes all the difference, if you are looking for sub MOA groups without adjusting for wind then you should be looking at 6.5 creedmoor as a better place to start.

if you learn your wind and wind is fairly consistent the airgun absolutely can reliably reach out to 200 yards. This is shooting .25 slugs(leas than half the BC of 45 slugs) at 200 with fairly consistent wind but I screwed up in shot number 2 of 5, still count as MOA C2C but can be better.

When my Impact was in the .25 flavor I often shot paint cans at 200 meters or 218 yards. When the wind co-prated, which was seldom, I would hit three or four in a row. I was most often holding 12-18 inches for wind.

Shot these at the same range. So, 200 yards is an acceptable range, for some airguns, with little or fairly constant wind.

Maybe not with pellets, but the big bore airguns - yes.

At RMAC and EBR big-bore/magnum slug matches, plenty of shooters can hit a 4moa plate 1st shot and almost every shot at any distance out to 300+yds.

Outside of that my .257 can average close to 2moa groups often and can easily shoot 1moa, 200yd (even 300yd) groups under windless conditions.

That is mostly from a bench. Plus it takes a lot of preparation, and setup discipline, but it’s doable.

Andy2828 .. with a good external regulator..a well slugged barrel for a perfect bullet fit and if your texan has the hp TX2 valve .. and one more thing replace the last plastic bushing on the frame that is only a dust cover for a solid aluminum one. Because the length between the last bushing that holds the barrel with 4 screws to the tip of the barrel is way to long n might cause armonics problems.. you should be able to do 300y + .no problem. All day long.. without a in line regulator is next to impossible in the case of a texan.. unless you have dialed those 3 or 4 shoots to perfection..

A Lilja barreled .257 Scandalous is always a reliable option.

This second picture was 5 shots, then 2 clicks left & 5 more. I'm selling off the Athlon BTR 4.5-27 because I need a much finer reticle. My SWFA SS 16x is up next for me to try or Japanese Bushnell 6-18 fine duplex.

Since it allowed literal 1/8-1/4" 5 shot hundred yard

wi 32 grain .2175", I know I am going to be aiming for the 1/8" moa hole in hole with the 72 grain .257 at 100. Somewhere between 980 & 1080fps, Should maintain a sub 1" at 300.

First single shot at 305 on 9x. A rangefinder, StrelokPro, previous data on slug & voilà. Within 1 1/4" at 305. It's good but I'm just breaking the barrel in with a dual bearing mop. Deciding on scope & twist rate, etc.

That Athlon is now in box & listed in classified section. Athlon seems like a good company. I'm just not able to use a APRL1 2nd FP for precision at 100 let alone 3-400.

This will work better for my use. SWFA 16x mil quad. 0.1 mil turrets & reticle.

305 yards!?! That’s insane. Wow!
