Remarks:
Ron (the land owner) and I spent 4 or more hours setting up the course on Saturday. I decided to do a bonus lane with 4 targets with reduced kill zones that were under the 50 Troyer limit. This bonus lane will used as a tie breaker. The 64 shot/32 target course only had full sized and 1” kill zones.
The day started cold with temperatures at 40 degrees but we knew it would get warmer and it did. As predicted, there was very little wind through-out the match.
There were 4 targets per lane and shooting order was near to far one shot each than repeat again near to far one more shot. We had two elevated far targets but you shot them almost level. We had one positional lane. First 4 shots were done standing then second 4 shots were down kneeling.
After sighting in and brief safety meeting, 26 shooters began the match. Timers were used and 8 minutes were given to shoot 8 shots. We had several first-time shooters and I paired them with veteran shooters.
I give special thanks to the people from New England Air Guns who almost doubled our normal attendance. I hoped they enjoyed our match. I and others from CAG will welcome them again next year if they return. We had shooters coming from NYC and upstate NY. A special surprise was Todd Banks who we had not seen for more than a year and a half arrived with his friend James Behan.
There were remarkable performances. Brian Van Liew missed only 3 targets in the entire match and knocked down all of the bonus lane targets. Matt Brackett shooting a springer in WFTF Piston tied the Vasyl shooting in PCP Hunter class with 55 points and was two points behind John Eroh in WFTF PCP class. Ron Dumond scored 14 points better than his nearest competition. Very impressive shooting for all of the 1st place winners.
After the match was over, we had lunch inside the lower level den of Ron’s house. We had pizzas delivered, sodas to drink, cookies and vegetables with dip to snack on. After everyone had eaten food and drinks, the awards were given out. I had a spare Dragon face plate and decided to award it to our lone junior shooter to close out of the awards ceremony.
After the awards, I asked several people to help take down the course and almost everyone (25 people) joined in. It only took less than 10 minutes to put everything away what took several hours to put up.
I was happy that we had the largest turn out for our club to date. I hope to see more people enjoy field target shooting in the future.
Bruce and Bernie from Rockville Fish and Game (Fish and Game Rd, Vernon, CT) came over to watch our match to observe and take notes. They are having their first air gun match the next weekend on October 27. I am helping them start their own air gun matches.
A final thanks to all those who attended our match and welcome anyone to come back next year for more field target fun.
