2021 March 27 Saturday FT Match Report

Temperature: 64 degrees F

Wind: 5-10 mph

Sunny and windy conditions

10 lanes, 30 targets, 2 shots/target = 60 shots/points total

19-55 yards, mix of 1", 35mm, 1-1/2" and 40mm kill zones.

Average distance: 38.9 yards, Average KZ size: 1.48", Course Difficulty: 36.23T with wind factor

Ron D and Mike D layout the course on Thursday. On Saturday morning, I, Ron, Mike and new member Ron C all started to clamp the field targets to their concrete block bases and attach and roll out the strings to the shooting lanes. John E, Brian V and Alan E joined in helping setup the course and practice area. Around 9 am, we began sight-in practice and by 10 am, we started shooting the match.

Ron D got creative with the course layout and dividing the lanes into 3 groups. Lanes 1-4 were next to his house. Lanes 5-7 were in the middle and lanes 8-10 were next to the stone wall. The practice area was between lanes 7 and 8.

Ron C just joined the club and was paired up with Brian V who showed him the ways of the field target shooting and loaning his RAW TM1000 rifle. For his first-time shooting field target, Ron C did very well with a score 41. Welcome to field target shooting Ron! Brian did a great job coaching Ron C and providing him the equipment to do well.

The wind was challenging. Some of the 50 plus yard shots required several inches of hold off in order to knock them down. The mirage was present, and the average distance was long for our first match of 2021.

After we finished the morning session, we took a lunch break with Ron D grilling some hotdogs for the shooters and relaxing outside on his newly built patio & deck.

Chas D showed up after having our lunch break to shoot the afternoon session. John E switched over to his Hunter PCP rifle. I decided to try out my regulated Benjamin Marauder in the Hunter PCP class just for fun. Ron C tried out his Air Arms S500 on the course as well. It ended up being another fine day to shoot field target for all.

Thanks to all that attended and helped cleaning up ending at 4 pm.
