2021 May 22 Saturday FT Match Report
Temperature: 60-86 degrees F
Wind: 3-9 mph
From overcast to sunny and variable wind conditions
10 lanes, 30 targets, 2 shots/target = 60 shots/points total
20-55 yards, mix of 1-1/2" and 40mm kill zones.
Average distance: 39.8 yards, Average KZ size: 1.54”, Course Difficulty: 29.74T with no wind factor (36.16T with wind)
For this match, Ron D used distances from last year's match and laid out the course with some targets bunched together and you had to make sure you shot the right target on your lane. There were no reducers. Ron D and Mike D did all of this on Friday. On Saturday early morning, I and Chas helped setup the practice range with paper targets at the normal distances from 20 –55 yards with shoot-to-reset targets and spinners included. Around 9 am, we began sight-in practice and by 9:30 am, we started shooting the match.
We followed the same course layout that Ron D did the last match in March and dividing the lanes into 3 groups. Lanes 1-4 were next to his house. Lanes 5-7 were in the middle and lanes 8-10 were next to the stone wall. The practice area was between lanes 7 and 8. The course was difficult with a lot of long shots (including kneeling and standing) in the wind. You had to hold on the edge either side on the kill zone in order to knock it down.
Thankfully, we had a beautiful but hot muggy day to shoot field target. After a brief, practice session, we all took a lane and started shooting. The wind was blowing from quartering slightly left to right and sometimes right to left.
We had several new shooters to Ron’s match. Some were local to CT, and some were from MA. All were welcome to shoot and enjoy the day of shooting.
Brian L shot his last match in New England and is moving out West. Good luck Brian. May you find another field target club in your new destination.
Matt S decided to shoot two of his WFTF rifles. One was a springer and the other PCP.
Thanks for the cold drinks provided by John D at the end of the match. Thanks to all that attended again and helped cleaning up ending at 12:30 pm.
