2021 Texas cull hunt

My family and I have completed another successful cull hunt. This takes place every December. It’s about managing the herd’s genetics. For me specifically, it’s about filling the freezer.

This year I used a Benjamin Bulldog. Not a run of the mill Bulldog but a Pitbull from Pitbull Airguns. This little carbine produces 260 FPE ~ sends a .357 - 145gr at 900 fps. Gets 4 great shots with a 270 bar fill ~ 895, 910, 900, 880. I chose a Griffin cup base. It was very accurate.

The Pitbull took the first spike with a head shot. It was at 65 yards. It faced away from me but presented a shot when stretching its neck up to look around. I was confident that I could capitalize as I had put in plenty of testing. It took the slug to the back of the head and it was over very quickly.

The next spike was taken with a neck shot. This was at about 40 yards. Correctly placed neck shots are as effective as a good head shot. This one again didn’t make another step!

Spent some quality time with my dad and men of the Wall family. This was a great hunt and we had some awesome eats at Cooper’s BBQ. Wow I love Cooper’s.

Congratulations to the OP.

I picked up a pitbull modified bulldog recently. I killed one of at least two coyotes that were harassing my dog, from my third floor bedroom on a bright moonlit night. Walkout basement--really 2nd floor bedroom. The coyote dropped straight down unlike anything I've ever seen using the effective Benjamin/Nosler 145g ballistic tips. No leg twitching, no pissing, just dead. Among the most ethical kill shots I've ever seen. My wife was sleeping and didn't even wake up. Amazing how large a 27 pound coyote looks.

The male coyote's days are numbered if it keeps coming back to harass my dog. It is quite a bruiser--got him on camera pounding and scraping his paws and the ground like a buck. My dog usually alerts but when he did that she stopped barking. I guess it is some sort of message.

Coyotes stink. Literally. I guess they don't bath much.

In my old age I've become much more selective about what I kill without second thought(s) for realistic or recreational reasons. It's become a very short list- rodents, venomous pests, hogs, and coyotes. Coyotes are, without doubt, the most challenging of aforementioned scourges. Matter of fact, they're one of few species I have yet to add to my list of airgun harvests. Hope to do so before I check out; hopefully with air pistol.

Your airgunned coyote is an excellent trophy. Hope you had it mounted.
