Remarks:
It was a very, very windy and cold day to shoot in the woods. The wind switched directions on a regular basis. It was your typical New England fall weather with leaves and pine needles raining down on the course as the wind blew.
We had 28 shooters coming from CT, MA, ME and NY. As match director, my score in WFTF Piston did not count for this match.
For the 1st place finishers, I had one dragon face plate and several Rhino face plates. These face plates can be mounted on Gamo Squirrel or Umarex Deer field targets. I had two extra ones that I sold to Dave F and Stephan H at the end of the awards ceremony.
The course was the same as it was set up for the Grand Prix in August except for the target 5 placed at 10 yards with a 15mm kill zone. Target 4 was placed on the tree to expose it to more wind.
We had some special targets on the course. A Giraffe head (target 26) based on the South Africa Worlds logo made by Paul's Custom Targets. A Green Goose and Green Frog made by Bill Corder. A headshot rat (target 5), an extra-large crow (target 24) and spider web (target 29) made by Flop Over from the UK.
We had a lot of cold lines. Some of the protested targets had questionable splits on them. I decided to replace the targets to eliminate anymore. Several broken strings and swivels occurred as well during the match.
We had two tie breakers for 2nd and 3rd place for Hunter Piston and 3rd and 4th place for Hunter PCP.
All four competitors did not want to do a shoot off in the windy and cold conditions after eating lunch.
I decided to use the forced positions (*kneeling and standing) combined to determine the tie breakers.
Continental breakfast was served before the start of the match. Lunch was served at the end of the match.
A great big thank you to all the volunteers and participants for braving the windy and cold fall weather.
See you all next year!
