2025 Goals for Airgunners

From an airgunning perspective 2024 was for slow for me. However, I did have a spurt or two in the beginning of the 2024-2025 squirrels season. I was also able to get most of what I wanted in order to complete my setups for a few applications. I was able to incorporate my e-bike into my airgun hunting which was an interesting learning experience. Now looking forward, I wish to pay closer attention to my DOPE and synthesize some data so that I have more options for varied hunting scenarios. I also aim to better educate myself in areas dealing with precision like: choosing to work with a ballistic app, learning to dial turrets, and setting up scope tape (I've been ducking that for a while). Ultimately I'd like to improve my shooting and I have had some very generous people to assist me. I may add a couple of elements to a hunting rig to see if they make a difference in my hunting experience. Most importantly, I became better acquainted with airgunners within our community. I'm thankful for having made acquaintances with several folks here and the friendships that ensued from our interactions. Each year I am happy just to see some of y'all continuing to log in and participate. And each year it sucks to see some go.

So what are your goals for 2025? Do you wish to start a dream build? Are you motivated to finally start competing? Who's starting their own shooting club or beginning to host competitions? Finally setting up a shooting lane in your yard, property, basement? What do you aim to do to further your knowledge or enhance you airgun experience?

I need to set up my personal backyard range better.I may have to buy a "bottle" like a PCP tank; hand pumping is getting old, plus I have acquired some PCP that are harder to fill.
Quit buying more air rifles and use the ones I have more often.
Number one, quite buying scopes,I just took down a box filled with scopes I forgot I had; these are very good scopes. Find and become friends with air gun enthusiasts in the East and North Bay Area. Shoot more(y)

@boscoebrea Those are some good goals. That SCBA tank will be a game changer. Do you have a price range? I can try to help by keep in an eye open for something on sale if you're looking for something new and will need to depend upon a dive shop. Luckily for the meetup, you're within 45 minutes of several members I've been seeing. The Diablo Rod & Gun club in Concord may be worth looking into. I have to drive hours to the clubs I'm aware of.

I bought my last two rifles late in 2024 and am already giving one to my son to usefor a while, so I am set on rifles…I won’t buy another rifle, repeat 10k times.

2025 Goals
1. Become more effective at garden protection (how to stay awake after dark?)
2. Make more pesting trips out of state
3. Save $ for an HW75 or another pistol and wait for a used one to surface

I’d like to be able to properly mount a scope (silly, huh?) and take apart my HW35 and put it back together so it still works. Not that I want to tune, I just want to know the guts and how they work. I’d really like to pay for a couple hours with someone who knows what they’re doing. Videos don’t give me the confidence.
Knowing the rifle doesn’t make the shooter, my plan is to not buy a second rifle until I feel comfortable and proficient with this one.

@Rondo Those goals definitely sound achievable. There’s two airgun shops that I know of in MA, Northeast Airguns and New England Airguns. Have you considered calling one of those shops to see if someone can assist you with some visual and hands on instruction? If they can, hopefully it’s not too far of a drive for you drop in or plan a trip.

Sounds like someone in front of you saying “You’ve got it!” may be the push you need to get over the hump. Once you get it right, scope mounting isn’t very difficult on PCPs. The challenges I’ve faced came with varying mounts and mounting surfaces especially when the breech is beneath the scope. Springers are different due to the two-way recoil of the gun to my understanding. I hope you can learn within the first quarter of the year.

2025 goals.

1: Have even more fun shooting.
2: Try to be more helpful towards fellow shooters.
3: Save hard in order to be able to insulate most of the shed. This CUZ i damn well cant work any harder, that would just come out of my pension.
4: Try to get at least one good lead trap done.
5: See if i can afford more spinners / steel targets.
6: see if i can get any family into airgun shooting, though i doubt CUZ very small family.

And possible pick up one more airgun,,,, just one,,,, i swear.

My goal is to do more shooting, specifically working on improving my offhand shooting.

I retired a few years ago, and to my amazement I found myself shooting less in retirement than I did before when I was working. I used to shoot almost every day, even if only for 10 or twenty shots or so, and most of those were offhand. It was my stress relieving therapy, and now that I am retired I don't need the therepy anymore - so the offhand shooting is way down. Most of what I do now is from the bench, or rested at pests. I have recently found that my offhand skills, formerly merely adequate and not stellar, have deteriorated a lot. So my goal is to improve on that.

Staying awake after dark? It’s difficult…
@Struckat & @gendoc That's a hefty goal. One year my melons kept getting hit. I chained a dog up around the garden, but she kept turning over the sand in the rows and laying across them trying to keep cool so I had to move her. Then I tried camping out to catch the offenders. I tried coming out at midnight, 2, and 4 am. Those bastards never showed up while I was outside and awake, but my melons continued to look like fruit bowls until they were all eaten. This was before I know about motion detector setups.

So fellas, I suggest setting up motion detectors with a ding-donger around your target areas, keeping an aired up rifle with NV or thermal scope mounted with a charged battery and a loaded mag by the bed, and get some rest. If ya'll find a more effective method, please share. Those late night pesting missions can be a PITA.

got all kinds of notification devices, its just i cant function well as soon as i hit the floor.
i do better while awake on kiyotes around my calves and during birthing, i know what to expect.
but the garden critters do it while i'm sleeping and not a pattern of visiting times.
i have a hearing impairment, so thats another problem with the notifications.

Moving into a newly built house so a new range and shooting area are in order...plenty of room, I need a good bench, and bags.
Will try to trade/sell guns I'm not using...too big or heavy and get smaller compacts...getting older and weaker you know...need to get rid of more than I get.
Planning to get together at my new place with some good friends I got to know through AGN, to shoot and get to know each other...none of us is getting any younger...
Get to know more AGN members...An unexpected benefit of AGN...Great people...(more fun than shooting!)
