< 20fpe Night time Field Target Match at Phoenix Rod and Gun Club 05/27/23

10-55 yards, under 20fpe, NIGHT MATCH!!!!

We've done high power/long range field target matches at night but this will be the first REGULAR field target night match @ PRGC. And it will be a full 10 lanes of fun.

Ranging by focus at night is an interesting experience, details can be seen that are simply not visible in the sunlight. I've been told by some competitors that they like to set up their scopewheels at night, specifically because it is so much easier to discern "clear"on a well-lit target at night, versus during the day. One fun aspect that we saw from from 20fpe field target as a fun side match a few years ago, was that the vaporized cloud of lead could be seen in the scope. I've only ever seen that with sub20fpe field target at night.

Should be a blast!!!

I'm told that many years ago, PRGC hosted sub 20fpe field target matches, but this will be the first 10-55yard ft match at this location in a VERY long time.

Match will occur on the same terrain as the high power/long range matches, back behind (south of) the berms in the natural desert.

This sounds really fun!

Justa few years shy of 40years ago PRGC was my home range.
I used to shoot indoor there when Richard (Turkey) was the coach.

Spent many, many, memorable days there learning basic marksmenship & how to hit clays with my good ol pop cocking and loading the single manual clay thrower they had at the far end of the rifle range.
Got to shoot a glock at the pistol range when they first came out- that was a big deal( for me anyway).

I hope all of you have a great match, the desert is beautiful at night.

Looking forward to this match, the evening hours in May are typically very pleasant so hope there is good turnout. I have competed at a few of the evening XFT matches at PRGC and the one thing I really enjoy about the night meets is how QUIET it is as we have the range to ourselves. Franklink answered a question in his post above about nighttime rangefinding as I have not done that before - looks like that should not be a problem, and maybe even more precise than daytime rangefinding.

Weather is looking great for tonight’s match, low 90’s at start to mid 80’s by the end - see point forecast graphic below. That may sound hot, but with the very dry air at around 11% RH, it will feel VERY pleasant as the sun sets. Winds are forecasted to be 6-8 out of the west, so probably just enough to make shots challenging. Yeah, those 3/8 inch kill zones might be interesting!

Good luck, these events are FUN!!!
We did 2 night matches out here in Concord, one on Halloween and the last on New Years eve. All traditional FT rules like you're doing, plus darkness. High winds at our NY's eve event, but was hoot none the less .
On our Halloween match, a bat came and hung out for the last hour over head on the ceiling
