One of the rifles I was missing from my springer collection was an Air Arms Pro Sport in .22. A couple of weeks ago, JAMDON on AGN offered one in the classified ads. Advertised as like new with a self tuning job, incorporating a Tinbum TbT Maxi Kit and a Maccari spring kit, I took a chance and purchased it, figuring I would end up disassembling it and tuning it to my satisfaction upon receipt. It is also, next to my Red Wolf, one of my most beautiful rifles as the walnut stock features a great deal of tiger stripe in it.
Donovan did a terrific job with his tuning effort. The rifle arrived shooting just under 13 ft lbs, and depending upon the pellet, produced an SD within a range of 4 to 6 fps across 50 shot strings. There was absolutely no reason I could find to disassembled it. As evidenced by the attached exhibits, once sighted in, I proceeded to shoot 6 different pellets, 5 ten shot groups each, on my 18 yard in door range. Of those, the best performers were the AA 16.0 and 18.0 Gr pellets. I then took the rifle to my weekend available, long distance indoor range, shooting two ten shot groups each at both 30 yards and 50 yards. The resulting groups were incredible for a spring rifle, rivaled only by Motorhead custom tuned Diana 56 TH at the 50 yard mark. My TX200s and Weihrauchs will shoot +/- 1 1/2 at 50 all day long, which I consider good for a springer, but not with the tight core in evidence that this rifle did with the 16 Gr AA pellets, the best performer of all.
I finished off the project by changing out the Hawke 8 -32x50 SF 30 Airmax scope (simply too big for the rifle), with a Vortex 6-24x50 FFP Tactical - which fits the rifle perfectly and leaves the loading port fully exposed. This rifle should be a great rifle for my kids to inherit as part of the collection. Enjoy the data.
