22 caliber - the most popular?

It is claimed that the 22 caliber is THE most popular caliber in airgun use today. There is plenty of reason to believe that. The weight range of 22 cal pellets is impressive. Cost per pellet is also substantially beneficial versus their larger caliber counterparts. The recent increase in power of the guns has expanded the versatility of this caliber with slugs and monster redesigns. Both in target and hunting. Their economical nature versus the 25 caliber also elevates their standing with both pellets and slugs. I prefer 25 caliber, but 22 caliber has made big advances and I'm gaining new respect for them.

.22 cal is very versatile with the wide range of pellets/slugs available today for small to medium/small size game. For larger game I would go bigger.

I think a big push for 22 was because of countries that are confined to power restraints, or not able to shoot above 22cal. This means the manufacturers spend more time on r&d for those calibers purely because the market is larger.

22 has always been my go-to and my favorite caliber in an air rifle.. the 22 has always and always will get the attention first before any other caliber by manufacturers. it's first in new pellets to slugs and barrels to come out before any other. Its been that way for years.
