.22 FX Wildcat Shot Strings

Hey guys,

I've had this wildcat since Monday and all I've done to it is clean the barrel and shoot it. This is the first regulated gun I've owned but not the first PCP.

I was hoping you guys could look at the three shot strings I shot over the chrony today. I'm worried about the random dips in fps in each of the 64 shots. It doesn't seem to me the regulator is performing at it's best. The third strings is definitely more consistent than the previous two. My chrony didn't have any errors during the tests. I could tell by the sound of the shots when it would spit out a shot in the 800s. The accuracy seems to be there minus the low numbers of course. Hopefully the text isn't too small to read.

Well just to be nice drop the bottom numbers ( off reg ?) or say 10fps. But yes your spread is a good bit larger than one would like in a regulated rifle. Likely shoot it a bunch soon as just see where it goes.
Or, are you a tinker type who doesn't need a warranty? Too much or wrong lube, Maybe the hammer et al. could use a good polishing, could be the hammer is a bit heavy? Adjust change hammer spring? Perhaps just feeding it heavier pellets would flatten it some? Unless it's grinding or chrunchy or something just put another 500 pellets down the tube and if it's not tighter - that can happen- give your dealer a call.

Yeah, I have some 18g JSBs on order to see how they work in it. I have worked on all my guns to some degree so I'm comfortable doing it. I plan on putting a lot more pellets thru it before I open it up tho. Thanks for the input!

I got numbers like that with mine. It seems to be tightening up the more I shoot it though. Maybe the reg has to work itself in. Ive heard from others not to do a serious crony until between 300 and 500 pellets. Im getting close to that now. Mine is settling in at 934 to 945. My first shot after fill is always low, like 905 to 910 though. Then its back up. My Best groups are with the 18g Jsb. they are running in the 880 to 890 range.

I wouldnt worry about it too much yet. Give the gun a chance to smooth out and let the reg settle in. I know its hard to endure the break in period. I have a one week old Vulcan which prior to today only had about 50 pellets through it. Couldnt stand not shooting in the half decent weather today so I ran two 30 shot strings over the chronograph. ES of 12.5 and SD of 2.98 one one and 15.7 and 3.9 on the other. Not where I want it to be but its better than its previous outings.

Since this post I've put at least 1000 pellets thru the wildcat. Today I went out to try out my scope cam and also because it's the first day in a week with little to no wind. I only got thru one magazine before taking the scope cam off. The gun was throwing pellets all over the target...I was like wtf?! I was shooting at 50yds so decided to move it back to 32yds (my normal zero). Same thing...pellets everywhere! I decided to take it back inside and clean the barrel...it was filthy!

Took it back out to the 32yd target and after a couple shots the grouping came back...

8 shots - 32yds - JSB 15.8 - Probably the best group I've ever had beyond 4 shots (5th one always gets away)!

Decided to give 50yds a try...

8 shots - also one of my best groups

Keep that Wildcat barrel clean!

"poorshot"Hi Clgraham82 I am thinking of getting the same shooting rest as you show in your first picture.

How does it work with the Wildcat?

I was wondering how it would fit/work and it popped up in your post.
Don't like it at all...for any of my guns! First rest I bought and it is just too unstable. The front and rear rest just don't fit the guns properly. Since that photo I ordered and got this rest and it is awesome! So much more adjustable and stable!

Any Wildcat owners notice if you're getting a puff of air out of the breech from around the magazine when you fire your gun? Was shooting today and notice the report of the shot had changed or gotten louder by my ear. Having had to replace breech seals on my other PCPs I knew to check for the air escaping from the breech. My groups are still tight so I'm not sure if I might be having a problem or...just being paranoid?

Plan to run some more shot strings later on today and see if they show anything...
