.22 NSA 19gr squirrel and groundhog smackdown

I got a chance to try out the .22 cal 19gr slugs from NSA on a couple of squirrels and a groundhog with great results.

The first squirrel was shot in the lungs at 30 yards since he wouldn't hold still long enough for a head shot. He only went about 5 feet from where he was shot.It definitely tore him up inside as a large pool of foamy blood was under him.

Nice size exit hole as slug expanded on the way out.

The next was a direct shot to the eye as he was facing slightly toward me. the exit was out his ear hole.

The groundhog was at 25 yards and I put it directly in her ear, with no exit wound. She just rolled over and her feet twitched a few times. I wanted to recover this slug but didn't have a proper knife for this and it was starting to get dark. I will have to be better prepared next to so that I can recover the slug.

I am very pleased with the 19gr NSA hollowpoints, and can't wait till he has them coming off of the high speed press, which should be in a few weeks.

What speed are you running the 19's at boss ? I guess they must be super fast ??

Rog

Sorry, I thought I posted that. I am Avgeraging HI 841/ low 831 / avg 837FPS /ES 10 / SD 3

I could probably tune for more power, but with the consistancy of my strings at this setting I don't want to risk messing up my tune. I don't plan to pest with this at long range like 100 yards, so I am happy with the 30 ft-lbs at the muzzle.I actually like the higher bc projectiles cause you can tune for accuracy, and they retain more energy than a high velocity pellet at the longer ranges.

Very nice!!

Which rifle?

It's the .22 cal MRod with the Lothar-walther barrel and picatinny rail.

Great shooting and results Dave. You're shooting yours a lot slower than mine but same end result. So far I'm really like these 19 gr NSA slugs.

I could probably push them faster, but this is using the tune from my 18gr JSB's, which I would prefer not to adjust for now. However, once Nick has these slugs running with the high speed equipment I may purchase a large quantity after testing and retune for just slug usage.

I am thinking about putting a nice boyd stock on it in the future.
