.22 RAW HM1000X and 18s?

My RAW shoots 25.4 MRDs so darn accurately I’m afraid to mess with it or change the tune. I just wondered if anyone is de-tuning and shooting 18s in yours? I know the current barrels are polygonal so was this barrel designed specifically to shoot MRDs? If you are shooting 18s does it shoot them as accurately as the MRDs, naturally at shorter distances or for indoor BR?
 
It will shoot 18s just as accurately as 25s, but you will need to swap out the hammer spring to a lighter one and then turn down the regulator pressure wich is not one of the easiest things to do as you will need a regulator pressure tester or do what I did "old fashioned trial and error". You can buy the lighter spring from RAW. I would say that you need to decide what you want to shoot for a long while because it is a pain in the ass to adjust, hence the reason I sold my RAW. Pro tip! If you have the LRT Just absolutely make sure you unscrew the bottle before removing the action from the stock or you WILL break the wood around the bottle's neck.

I had Ken Hick's de-tune mine to shoot the 18gr pelllets @ 950fps because they are more affordable to shoot from the get go, and, yes, they are very accurate from a .22 RAW HMx. I believe Ken cut the spring down about 1.5 coils. In this configuration, it will shoot NSA 17.5gr .2175 slugs @ 935'ish very well (another affordable ammo). Have taken ground squirrels out to 110yds with 18gr and close to 120yds with the NSA. I also purchased extra heavy springs from RAW TN in case I want to shoot the 25gr JSB's and/or heavier slugs.There is a youtube video from the guys @ Airgun Depot shooting the RAW HMx .22 with both size pellets indoors (18gr going 1050fps), just google raw hm1000x lrt .22 and look at the videos available. I also get about 70-80 shots. Someone built me an SSG for mine to shoot the 18gr, I get close to 120 shots with it but the ES is larger so I went back to the original cut spring.

Yes it is possible, Martin adjusted the regulator on my RAW so all you need to do is change the tension on the hammer spring. From the screw head starting at flush to the receiver to 3 1/8 turns in. It will shoot JSB 18gr from 880ft/s to 1053ft/s and the JSB 25.4g from 800ft/s to 933ft/s. And yes I have found the 18g to be very accurate and less expensive to shoot. The 25.4g will group better on a windy day.

Thanks for that tip Randal. It’s something that I could comfortably do I’m sure but my rifle is shooting Soooooo good now I’m not sure I really want to risk de-tuning it and then having difficulty getting back to this same tune. After giving this a LOT of contemplation I think I’ll pick up another RAW at some point that I can dedicate to shooting 18s in.

I’ll tell u how I did it.



I bought a second reg core. And a couple spare springs. I have one reg core set to 130bar and one to 105bar. I can swap them in and out as I please. 

I don’t know what Hammer spring ur gun uses, but u simply want another identical spring so u can leave this one as is.

more than likely this new spring You will have to clip shorter. So u detune the hammer.

Tim, you're welcome! I'm like you..someone sent me an SSG and it works incredibly well for shot count...but ES grew to double digits so I kept it exactly how it was before...80 shots but stoopid consistency. I do like your second RAW to de-tune! Corny's way is the simplest, most economical way though but if you have means then by all means a second one! Maybe have Martin build you one to your specs.....
